New Frankfort Avenue Spot (Rumor)?

by Brad Keeton » Tue May 31, 2011 1:10 pm

I heard some chatter this weekend about a new spot on Frankfort Ave associated with Larry Rice (formerly of 732 Social), supposedly with a focus on cocktails? Anyone know anything? Is Louisville getting its own Patterson House?

I thought he was at Eddie Merlots.

I ran into Larry at Frankfort Java about two months ago... he told me he was working on something on Frankfort. I don't remember if he said in a former firehouse, or near a former firehouse.

That's my two cents.

Hmmm, in the former Ky BBQ Co. spot? I ran into a friend a few months ago that murmured about hopes to open something up there. I'm wondering... will this cocktail driven place also feature some french-influenced fare?

With the "732 Social connection" noted, that certainly seems like the likely subject of the rumor. I'm interested to see if there is in fact a cocktail focus in a honky-tonk setting, but should be interesting.

I spoke with Larry recently and he did talk of work on 'a project on Frankfort Ave.' That being said, I would find it hard to believe that he wouldn't have a very strong cocktail program- he's passionate about the subject and is one of the best.

We didn't discuss the culinary program or concept, but he seemed excited. He had mentioned an August opening, but you know- construction never comes out quite as anticipated. Something always comes up, especially when doing remodels.

A speculation- I wouldn't be surprised that the music leans more towrds the rockabilly/modern bluegrass. There is some great stuff happening in that genre right now.

The place next door to us (which was once KY BBQ Co.) is going to be a bar/grill called The Recovery Room. They plan to open in the next couple of weeks.

I haven't had a chance to peak in yet, but the owners have been hard at work and have come over here for some treats to keep them going. I will try to find out more when I get a chance and let you know.

Check out the new edition of Bourbon Review to get the inside scoop on this project. It is going to be a very cool addition to the local dining/cocktail/bar scene.

Isn't neat to see that THE Ron Johnson still logs on at time, David? His input is missed.

Thanks Gayle. I miss Louisville. I still pop in from time to time for random acts of great eating out.

also, this new spot will be called The Silver Dollar and it will be in the old firehouse across from Maido.

Ron,

Is the article you referred to online ? I can't seem to locate it. If it's not too much trouble perhaps you could give us the highlights of the story (concept, menu, drinks, etc)
