Coals Artisan Pizza - LEO Review

by Steve P » Wed May 18, 2011 12:24 pm

I'm sure Robin will have his LEO review of Coals posted here in the next day or two...so perhaps I'm jumping the gun here a bit...but I just wanted to be among the first to say "WOW" !!! Congrats to ALL the folks at Coals for an outstanding review ("The proof, of course, is in the tasting, and after repeated taste tests, I’m prepared to rank Coals among Louisville’s best"...."Rating: 94"). Nice...really really nice.

Nope, no problem! I've been in a brain-busting final exam all morning, but I'll post the details later today.

It's an off-menu item. You have to know about it to ask for it. 8)

Actually I believe it's going on the menu as The <blank> Pie...."AKA The Steve P". It's all cool.

I tried to go for lunch today, but they were closed with no sign and no indication of why. Hours on the website indicate they should have been open (I was there at 11:45). Needless to say this was frustrating and it will probably be quite a while before we commit to going back again. Next we decided to head over to Majid's. When we arrived they were closed as well, and we were informed they are no longer going to be open for lunch. This was much less upsetting because the issue is a permanent schedule change, and is actually more concerning than anything. We ended up finding a decent lunch, but it was certainly not what we had hoped for when we first set out today.

Will,

I am sorry you found the restaurant closed. Normally we are opened Monday through Saturday but the weekend crowds ate us out of house and home (Thank You Robin!). The dough that was scheduled for Monday was consumed on Saturday and we just did not have enough to open. We posted on our facebook and Mark and Chef Mike were here to answer the door. We must have missed you. We are open tonight for business fully stocked and ready to roll. So sorry for the inconvenience.

I kinda figured that might be the case when I saw your Facebook post this morning.

They were definitely fully stocked last night and again very crowded! They definitely have things running quite smoothly especially considering how slammed they are. We've now managed to try just about everything on the menu and it's hard to pick a favorite since they're also good!
