A few people have asked me about some of the changes we are making this year to the fest. One new thing that we are doing is what we are calling our House of Hops. We'll have a separate tent from our usual setup that will be exclusively hoppy beers. We've got quite a lineup so far, and it is improving as we get more information from our brewers on what they are bringing.

We have also done away with the silent auction, and are going exclusively with a raffle this year. Logistically, the silent auction was not working out the way we wanted, with people bidding and not there at the end of the event to pay/pick up their items. We'll be making bundles of items to raffle off instead. A few examples include our 99 bottles of beer on the wall, which is a collection of 99 different craft and imported beers. Another batch will be a beer glassware collection, with numerous different logo beer glasses. We'll have plenty of other items available as well.

If any of our friends in the Hotbytes community wants to donate anything for the raffle, please contact me. Everything goes to the WHAS Crusade for Children, so it is tax deductible. We have the necessary paperwork from the Crusade that you can use when filing your taxes next year.

If anyone has any questions, please feel free to contact me.

I think I mentioned it last year, but any chance the tents will be reversed, so that drinkers are on outside instead of inside this year? It always gets packed in the aisles between the tables.

I realize its a tent or space issue, and it wont stop me from being there either way, but I like the way Great Taste does it to prevent crowding.

Rob,

We are actually breaking things out a lot more than we have in the past, where we've put everything under the one large tent. A lot of the breweries coming have either vehicles they can pour from, or have smaller pop up tents, so we are going to move them all out of the tent and have a separate area for them, and we are also putting all the raffle items into a separate tent as well, so we will have a lot more room to move around in the tents than we have in the past.

I looked this year into getting smaller tents, rather than the one large one we have been using, but the costs were going to be more than double what we are currently paying, so rather than going that route and taking money away from the charity, we're going to try what I described above. It should be a whole lot better than what you've had to deal with in the past.

Cool, I figured the other way must have cost more, but it sounds like what you are doing will help a lot.

Version 1 of the Fest of Ale Program is now online. There will be a few tweaks to this, as I'm still waiting on a few breweries to give me their beer list.

Version 5 of the program is now up, http://www.kegliquors.com/images/upload ... rogram.pdf and we are happy to announce that Sun King Brewery from Indianapolis will be pouring at the fest now! We'll also start getting their canned beer next week as well.

Link to a google docs spreadsheet with the program info in sortable form.

I added style info (from BeerAdvocate.com) and grades from BA.com and also scores from ratebeer.com.

Its sorted by style/RB score right now. I find it the most useful way to use it. I tend to get on a style kick and want to try them all - last year it was saisons.

This will be my first Fest of Ale and I'm looking forward to it, Todd. I was just wondering if you (or anybody else) had any idea what kind of food will be offered..

Thanks to everyone who came out for the Fest of Ale yesterday. We topped 1000 people in attendance for the first time, and we were able to raise $7225 for the Crusade for Children. We are very proud of both of those numbers.

If anyone on the forum attended and has feedback, both good or bad, please let me know. We always like to tweak things any way we can to make things better for the next year.

Thanks,

Todd

Positive: Loved the layout of the main tent this year. The breweries that brought there own little tents made it possible for you to do what I had suggested previously and it was awesome. You could get in and out without having to fight thru crowds, and if you wanted to socialize in the shade of the tent, you could without being in people's ways. Many thumbs up!!!

Negative: The heat. I suggest you lower the thermostat a little bit next year.
