YAY! Captain's Quarters re-opens!

by Robin Garr » Wed May 11, 2011 9:47 pm

So, when's the big offline!?

Here's the news release ...

CAPTAIN’S QUARTERS REOPENS AS RIVER RECEDES.

Captain’s Quarters, Louisville’s landmark riverside dining
destination, re‐opened on Wednesday afternoon (May 11).

Heavy spring rains and the swollen Ohio River forced Captain’s Quarters to remain
closed since April 23. Like many businesses, Captain’s Quarters staff and
management simply had to wait for the river to recede before resuming business as
usual. “Unfortunately, it wasn’t our first trip to this rodeo,” says Brian Masterson, a
Captain’s Quarters partner.  “But she’s now high, dry, clean and ready for our
traditional spring crowds.”

Masterson and his team spent the last seven days hosing down, cleaning up and
otherwise removing any evidence of flooding.

Open daily (Mon‐Thu 11:30am‐10pm; Fri‐Sat 11:30am‐12am; Sun 10am‐11pm),

Captain’s Quarters is located at 5700 Captains Quarters Road, just off River Road at
Harrods Creek. Call 228‐1651 for directions.

I believe the handsome Mr. Veneman initiated the topic in the offline forum here:

I might be on board for that!

DOH !!!...Musta missed that post. Well Hells Bells, lets get it on. I'll be glad to help out in the planning if necessary but with "The Rolling Bones" preparing to kick off the 2011 "Drinkin' in the Driveway" Tour, we don't have a lot of spare time to devote to planning an event. We'll be real happy to show up to eat and drink however. So show us as "in" when this thing gets off the ground.

OK, once again, I struck before the Coffee kicked in and posted my blurb to route folks over there.....

No biggy......I'd rather have the word out in too many places than not enough......

I've got a call into Alan H. to find out what evenings would work best for them, and I'll post his reply.....you may follow it on the Offline thread.....

I need another cup of coffee.

Thanks for all the support we have received this past month !

Fortunately I am blessed with a staff that has a lot of strong ownership in the restaurant, to open up in 7 days after having 5 1/2 feet of the Ohio River in the dining room still amazes me !

In perspective, during the high water in March that reached the building the tsunami hit Japan that day, and this time when the water was coming back in the outbreak of tornadoes was hitting the south. Yes we lost revenue that we will never get back and we endured some sleepless nights but everyone is safe and there were no injuries, and for that we are grateful.

Look forward to seeing everyone again on the river whenever a date is set !

I'm really glad CQ is open again, but I've never understood how they manage the expensive cleanup which seems to come almost every year. I wouldn't think an insurance company would touch that situation.

I wouldn't expect Alan to give us the financials, but I'm thinking CQ is so hugely popular, year-round and especially in the summer time, with those decks loaded with people, that they could pretty much self-insure against an assumed annual cleanup and still come out well ahead.

Not that a no-flood season wouldn't make them happy, I'm sure ...
