Congrats to Julian Van Winkle!

Congrats to Julian Van Winkle for bringing home the first ever James Beard Award to Kentucky!!! I'm flattered to be a 2010 & 2011 semifinalist, but would be lying if I said I was satisfied with that! Don't ever expect to win, but would be so excited to be a finalist and walk down the red carpet and be part of the big party!

What a great honor for Julian and for Kentucky's bourbon industry :!:

I've got somewhat mixed feelings on this one. One one hand it is a VERY deserving award and spotlights Kentucky and Kentucky's Bourbon Industry in a positive way. Kudos to Mr. Van Winkle for winning such a prestigious award (insert spontaneousness fireworks display). On the other hand (and from a purely selfish perspective) now that he's won "The Award" there's gonna be a whole bunch of east coast Jackwagons (who consider Kentucky nothing more than a "fly-over" state) clamoring to get more of our Pappy.

You are a hilarious non-stop curmudgeonly quote generator. Now somebody hush his mouth with some of that divine distilled corn cologne.

I feel ya...

It gets tougher and tougher with each passing year.

To some extent, I think something similar is already happening. One of my sources at a local liquor store told me more cases of the recently (around Thunder over Lou time) released Van Winkle were shipped to Califormia than remained in KY. I guess it can be marked up more for a greater profit on the west coast!

...better ask the liquor store to hiold some for me next shipment.

Yeah...Good fricking luck with that move. I'm on the "A" list with half a dozen local purveyors and for the latest release I managed to get my hands on two bottles of 10 year Van Winkle...period.

I was told (by someone at the Liquor Barn) that they received two cases of (I believe it was) 15 yr and some Jackwagon came in and bought virtually every bottle. Whatta ya want to bet that stuff sold on E-Bay and is now on it's way to some undeserving soul .

I'll probably never have a chance to try the stuff unless there's some kind of bourbon black market in operation.

I guess I'll just have to stick to Basil Hayden.

Very well written and to the point! Maybe we should start hijacking truckloads that are being shipped out of state! You would think until he had adequate supplies (which obviously will take years) they should provide the people who helped get them recognized first!
