Vertical Wine Dinner @ Marketplace Restaurant

by DMcGarity » Tue May 10, 2011 12:06 am

I am posting this, with Robin's permission of course, and I think it is a unique opportunity to try some great wines in an unusual way. We are doing a Vertical Wine Dinner with Jack London Cabernets at Marketplace Restaurant on Thursday May 19th @ 6:30pm. There will be a meet and greet until 7:00pm and then dinner will begin.

The 4 course menu consists of:

1st course

Smoked ham hock & white bean bruschetta with crispy sage, spicy tomato jam, and balsamic vinaigrette

paired with 1997 vintage

2nd course

Kentucky Bibb and Beet Salad with candied pecans and creamy gorgozola vinaigrette

paired with 1998 vintage

3rd course

Seared Petite Filet with roasted fingerling potatoes, garlic sauteed green beans & enoki mushrooms, and a veal demiglace

paired with 1999 vintage

4th course

"Chocolate Pie"-chocolate mascarpone mousse with a buttery graham cracker, toasted meringue, and raspberry compote

paired with 2007 vintage

The cost per person is $75 + tax and gratuity

RSVP with us at 625-3001

There is limited seating for 40 diners so please make your reservations early! I hope to see some of you all there!

It was totally amazing and then some!

1st course
Smoked ham hock & white bean bruschetta with crispy sage, spicy tomato jam, and balsamic vinaigrette

The crispy sage; ah, I can't say enough. The spicy tomato jam; I want some to put on my English muffin every moring.

2nd course
Kentucky Bibb and Beet Salad with candied pecans and creamy gorgozola vinaigrette

It doesn't get better than this. I think this is on the regular menu. I'm a sucker for beet salad.

3rd course
Seared Petite Filet with roasted fingerling potatoes, garlic sauteed green beans & enoki mushrooms, and a veal demiglace

I do believe that the filet with from one of the local farms. It gave new meaning to "melt in your mouth" tenderness.

4th course
"Chocolate Pie"-chocolate mascarpone mousse with a buttery graham cracker, toasted meringue, and raspberry compote

The raspberry compote was pure heaven. The rest sits in my fridge as I was to full to continue.

Dallas truly was the champion this evening.

The wine tasting was a once in a life time experience. I am one very happy lady.

Huh. It's weird 'cause I usually end up horizontal after a wine dinner. (Sleeping! Sleeping!!)

How could I have omitted the two passed hor dourves: pulled-pork bruschetta and deviled eggs w/ pickled ginger served with Krobel champagne or the palate cleanser of blackberries marinated in mint and, I believe, lemon juice served with zabaglione? I think that blackberries are my least favorite berry but I could have eaten those blackberries "until the cows came home!" The pulled-pork bruschetta was a perfect example of the southern inspired Italian influenced direction of which Dallas is taking the Marketplace menu.

Outstanding event! The wine was fantastic - Gayle bought the box of vintages for her upcoming 70th birthday present to herself and she has already said it best about the food. I love that beet salad and I wanted to make love to the lettuce, I couldn't shut up about it. I must have had the best of the best there, and I can be a real bitch about lettuce. As for kitchen creations, I stand with her 100% on every detail, totally forkable filet. I'd also like to add that it was my first exposure to that part of the patio and the weather was angelic. TSM's patios align with all other fruits of it's passions. Eric Haner is one hell of a gracious host, and then there's Dallas, yesss Dallas. It is no surprise to me that this man fathered a 10 lb bouncing baby. He sprinkles a little magic on everything it seems.

Wow! Thanks a ton you guys. I really put some effort into the pairings of the food with the wine...and Jackie, I get my Bibb lettuce from Greg Graft over at Grateful Greens. They have awesome stuff. I hope to see more of you next time we do a special event down here at Marketplace and thanks to everyone for your support.
