Shout out to our great local restaurants!

My company was entertaining C-level executives from Korea for Oaks/Derby. These were society folks from Seoul; very well travelled. I had the pleasure of being able to influence some of the restaurant choices, so they were almost exclusively locals. Every one of our meals ( Basa, Z's Oyster, Corbett's, Wallace Station) was excellent during a very tough time. ( Couldn't get a reservation at 732- sorry Jayson). Our guests were very impressed with the caliber of the dining scene in Louisville, and the excellent service during a very busy time.

Our guests left "wowed" by Louisville and what a great place this is for food and hospitality. Thanks to all for doing what you do, and doing it so well under pressure!

I was going to ask how it went at Heirloom as I recommended it but had not dined there in a while. By your post it looks like you went to Wallace Statiion instead.

We actually made reservations at Heirloom, but cancelled them a week ahead when we were offered the opportunity to tour a serious horse farm. They picked up the sandwiches at Wallace Station and ate them enroute- very good.

The Heirloom place is on my personal list for the next time I'm in Lex/Midway- thanks for the suggestion!

It was a very interesting weekend for us. Funny thing is, we only took reservations this year from our regular guests, and about four made by 21C for guests of the Hotel. Around Christmas time I decided it wasn’t really that important to me to showoff to people from Portland, LA, etc; Social if we weren’t taking care of the people who take care of us all year long. Majority of our regular guests either had family or business clients in for Derby - being as small as we are - it made more sense to just be here for them. And we still beat our last two, crazy, event filled, stressful derby seasons. And I wasn’t stressed out (important for staff ) nor did I have to curb Ironman training (good for me ) we didn’t raise our prices, change or shorten the menu, bring in extra staff, etc... The weather was perfect, and the entire city seemed to be functioning on auto pilot - best Derby experience in Louisville so far.

I actually, under our new amazing staff configuration, really got to see my little restaurant doing what I designed it to do - pretty much, for the first time since inception. Witnessed the attention to detail 21C achieves in taking care of their guests. got no less than 15 glowing restaurant reviews on all the compe... er, I mean other restaurants. And finally figured out that I know absolutely nothing about the horse racing industry.

All in all - pretty fun little week. Great way to usher in the busy summer months.

Regarding restaurants in the Lexington area, I have a recommendation. It's a place so good that I frequently drive the four hour round trip just to have a meal there. PM me for more details if you are interested!
