Chez Seneba moves, upgrades

by Robin Garr » Mon Sep 10, 2007 3:50 pm

I was at a meeting at KET today, too late for lunch alas, and learned that Chez Seneba, the lovable little Senegalese place that had been in a tiny two-table place on Gilmore Lane just off Preston, has moved out to more modern quarters at 4218 Bishop Lane.

This is a one-time Long John Silver's, briefly operated as Caspian Grill Iranian restaurant, next door to a Subway (and two doors from Oriental Star Chinese), just off Newburg Lane directly across Bishop from the Jefferson County Public Schools building.

Menu appears essentially the same as in the past, with daily specials for $7.99 and a core group of Senegalese entrees from $7.99 to $11.99.

I was there too late for lunch, but am definitely looking forward to trying it out soon, especially now that it's in more comfortable and slightly more accessible quarters.

Oooh, that's great news! We love Chez Senaba, but haven't been there in a long time because it's not that convenient. The tiny little building had it's 'hidden treasure' charm, but we would still be more likely to go back in a more comfortable setting. Thanks for the update, Robin!

Chez Seneba

Had lunch there today. New location (an old Long John Silvers) is a major improvement on the hut on Gilmore Lane. They run a four item menu daily (five if you count the hamburger) and daily specials. I tried the Maffe... tender chunks of not-too-fatty lamb and a slab of swet potato in a delicious peanut sauce, served with a big plate of perfectly cooked rice. I could have made a meal with the sauce and rice, the lamb was a bonus!

Bad news: there was probably three tablespoons of oil floating atop the dish. Owner assured me that it was vegetable oil, and that they can reduce the oil on request. Caveat: the Saturday special is fish in palm oil sauce, which I am told is the most unhealthy oil on the planet.
