Coals Artisan Pizza Now Open For Lunch

by Madeline Peters » Thu Apr 28, 2011 2:21 pm

Finally the sun has come back! We are open from 11:30 am to 2:30 M-F. We are creating personal size pizzas, beautiful salads and tasty sandwiches with house made breads. Now if we can only open that patio!

Madeleine I was wondering if the idea of a vegetarian arancini was still on the table? We visited recently with my vegetarian sister and brother-in-law and I know it would have went over well with them, but they stuck to salads for appetizers.

We finally made it to Coal's today for lunch and loved it! The crust was outstanding--cooked perfectly and my pizza was topped with the best Italian/fennel sausage I may have ever had. All the accolades are well deserved and we can't wait to go back!

After so many request Chef Mike tweaked the recipe so that the arancini can be ordered without the pancetta. They are wonderful with or without. We still sprinkle the dish with Parmesan as well as add a small ramekin of sun dried tomato marinara.

So its not actually on the menu that way right? We actually inquired with our waitress on Saturday about the possibility an after a confused look she just "I don't think so, it would be on the menu if it was available.". Just want to make sure I know what I'm talking about next time I ask. :)

We just changed it and the arancini can be requested as a vegetarian item. The kitchen will not add the pancetta cracklings as a topping.

We were there Monday for lunch and the lunch menu is very nice. They have combinations of a small pizza (7") in a salad as well as several other combinations. They've also added several sandwiches, one of our guests had one of them and said it was very good. Lunch is certainly a nice addition to their portfolio and I'm sure they will continue to grow!

Madeline, May I ask how the rice for the arancini is prepared?

Without giving the recipe away there is no animal products used to make the arancini and that includes the broth.

I was inspired by this thread to stop by for lunch today (Saturday) around 12:30-1PM. Alas, the place was closed and dark. Their Web site, checked before leaving, to verified that they should have opened at 11AM.

Oh well, maybe next time.

Thanks to Cafe Lou Lou for providing a very nice backup plan!

After spending silly money at the Chow Wagon on Coors Light and rides-we were holding off for some good food! Was with a friend who rarely gets to dine out since she is Chef and Owner of her own spot-well, we were with her son and my daughter and went to COAL'S! She was so excited to try it and she was not disappointed! We had the meatballs, salads and two different pies-all WERE YUM! :D :D
