BBC St. Matthews parking lot

by Matthew D » Sat Apr 23, 2011 12:46 pm

Was wondering if any else has had issues lately parking in St. Matthews, especially at the BBC?

I'm not sure if they own the "their parking" lot, if they own some of it, or if it is "public" parking. What I do know is that the crowd in the BBC never matches the number of cars in the lot. Given that the lot is both large and convenient, I can see how it would be used by all comers. At the same time, I wonder if the BBC is aware that the parking issue might be causing them to lose business.

Not really sure what the solution is. I'm working form the assumption that at least parts of that lot belong to the BBC, so it frustrates me when I see people parking there and then heading to another establishment. With that new establishment just eat of them on St. Matthews, there's less parking than ever.

We drove through the area last night, noted the lack of parking, and headed downtown. Parked right at 3rd and Main. Maybe I just need to go there more often instead of St. Matthews.

It is parking for all the buildings on that property plus St. Matthews Station.

This may not work all the time, but I've found that you can always find space in the lot behind where Bacon's used to be  and then walk right in to the BBC lot. It's not marked with "Your car will be towed" signs or anything.

In general, though, I think the increasing difficulty in finding evening parking in Old St. Matthews is very directly related to its ascendancy as a significant nightspot zone. I wonder if there's any semi-objective way to compare the action in St. Matthews against Baxter. Number of licensees? Total number of food-and-drink businesses? Traffic counts?

Drake's seemed to be hopping, so that lot was crowded too.

I agree about St. Matthews becoming a significant nightspot zone. I had the same thoughts concerning it versus Baxter. Judging from parking alone, the only thing that saves St. Matthews is that Bacon's parking lot (which was pretty fully last night).

Now that St. Matthew's is becoming a significant "night spot" - I'll need to find some where else to traipse around. I detest big crowds. We were in 60 West Bistro at the bar last night and I might as well have been sitting on the tarmac at UPS behind a 747 - my ears are still ringing.

That is what I do, I dont even try the BBC lot usually. I actually usually park at the bank, with them being closed figure that getting towed there is even less likely.

Oh yes, this is becoming quite an issue, especially for us as of late. Unfortunately we are going to have to take the route of putting signs up so our patrons will have parking as our lot has become the catch all of every bar in the area, not to mention the labor of picking up all the beer bottles and trash that people so nicely leave in our parking lot after taking up parking spots for our customers. I apologize in advance for any problems people may have finding parking when coming to dine with us.

Mark, thank you for coming to dine with us Friday night, I certainly hope you will come back as we are having a “come to Jesus” meeting with Drakes regarding the ridiculous music they are blaring through our walls and the parking issues. Unfortunately they did not do as they said and sound proof the walls as was agreed upon. When the music was turned up Friday night I asked that it be turned down, but that didn’t get me very far…

Thank you for everyone’s support!

Not on the restaurant front, but I'm having a similar problem with a residential neighbor. It's quite unfortunate (to put it mildly) when a neighbor either is oblivious to or disrespectful of how his/her (or an establishment's) behavior affects other people.

Friday night was the first time I noticed Drake's being open. My very first comment was, "doesn't looks like my kind of place."

Best of luck resolving this issue satisfactorily.

I was wondering where that noise was coming from, and we live 1/2 mile away! St. Matthews needs another pub like they need another pizza joint.

Uh oh !.....could the winds be changing...? ....us Highland / Germantown / Schnitzleberg / Distillery Common / Phoenix Hill folk have this every night !

It will do St. Matthews some good to bring a little character in there :D

I don't mind that another business opened down there, but I wonder what the saturation point is for similar businesses in such a small area? And by that I'm referring to the pubs... and pizza places. I think that competition can be good for business, but when does it become too much for the area to support? And yes, that's a real curiosity of mine.

St. Matthews has loads of character. That's one of the reasons we moved here. There's a restaurant "scene" here without it being a scene, which is nice. I won't name them at the risk of leaving any out, but there are at least a dozen destination restaurants on top of the aforementioned pizza restaurants, pubs and taverns.

So while I'll complain a bit about the noise, I realize that within reason that's one of the trade-offs of living here.

At least the trains stopped blowing their horns. :D

I've never noticed a noise issue in the area, but Drake's seems to be bringing one. I'm guessing that it will come to a stop when the weather quits being nice, temperature wise anyway. They are keeping the entire front of the building open and that won't fly when the temps hit the 80's.

As for parking, we always park in the lot behind Burdorfs with no problems.

Just because one 'is' a character doesnt mean one 'has' character.
I'm just saying

St Matt's will be just fine.
A lot of fun for many people doesnt have to mean obnoxious noise or patrons or disregard for the area theyre setting up shop in
