Jr. High Cast Party.....

by Becky M » Fri Apr 22, 2011 11:24 am

Thanks to Robin for the giving me the go-ahead on posting this.......

My daughter is participating in her school play and they are having a cast party. At a parent's meeting they asked anyone if they would like to organize it. I had already volunteered to take snacks on the long rehearsal nights so i didn't volunteer for the cast party. My daughter brought it to my attention that they might not have the party because no one had stepped up to it. I have no idea what i am doing but i offered my help and am going to try my best.

This will be informal, maybe pizza, snacks, drinks and a cake. My first thought when i decided i was going to take this on was that i wanted to try and have the food bought locally. I could easily do Pizza Hut or Little Ceaser's and it would be cheaper, but i wanted to first try and see if it was possible to buy REAL pizza.

We do not have much of a budget, they are going to give me exact numbers of what is left in the drama budget and we will try to gather some donations from parents. I would like to know if there is anyplace that would be willing to offer us some pizza at a reduced price. For the help, i am willing to personally pay for an advertisement to be printed in the program for the two nights of the play.

I have offered to purchase the cake for the party and was thinking of going with William's Bakery in Clarksville. After I read an article where Dan Thomas mentioned them, we tried them out and have purchased a couple of cakes and other goodies from there.

i have never organized anything like this, i am just a mom helping out my daughter and have no point of reference. Can anyone chime in on amounts that i would need for a cast of 30-35 students and a total attendance of about 60?

CPC is the first place that comes to mind. I think they have a soft spot for the kiddos.

They have 10" thin-crust cheese pizzas for $5 each and 18" regular-crust for $15, with no discount.

The cast party is Monday May 2nd from 4pm to 5pm or a bit later.

The play is actually the musical HONK! an adaptation of The Ugly Duckling.

Becky,

I've coordinated similar events in raising two kids over the past 28 years...Once I did a 8th Grade Sacrament of Confirmation lunch on a similar scale. The neighborhood Papa John's cut me a good deal on pizzas when I told the manager of my plight. The neighborhood ValuMart gave me a gift card for which to buy sodas and incidentals. The grocery stores can't necessarily give you merchandise, but they often will anty up a gift card so that you can puchase incidentals. I got our sodas and deli cookies this way and kept lunch to about $1.50 per person for about the same size crowd this way.

If some pizza place steps up and cuts you a deal I think the school should donate some advertisement space, not you.

I really appreciate the suggestions you made. Like i said, i have never done this before so you kind of pointed me in a direction of what i needed to do.

Wish me luck on my phone calls!

Becky, sorry we're not open on Mondays at the CPC.
There's a new place in Jeffersonville, "Cheezy's" that just opened and the NABC on Grantline is open on Mondays.
