Turkey Manhattan / Hot Turkey Sandwich

by JRColvin » Fri Apr 22, 2011 11:15 am

Any recommendations for local restaurants serving Turkey Manhattans, also known as a hot turkey sandwich? I read an article on this subject yesterday and want to re-live my childhood (which was not here in Louisville).

Note, not interested in the Hot Brown.

Thanks!

Not sure if a warmed Turkey sandwich is on the menu, but I am sure Stevens & Stevens could place some turkey on their flat-top / grill and make the sandwich you desire.

Plus, they have about 30 other very delicious sandwiches and their sides are very tasty too!

Upon doing a bit more research, it appears that a turkey manhattan is simply an open-faced turkey sandwich. The turkey is hot and topped with gravy and mashed potatoes is a standard side. If this is the sandwich that you speak of, I recommend a place like Cottage Inn or another "comfort food" restaurant. DD

Thanks... Yes, a comfort food restaurant would seem logical, or a cafeteria. I have been researching menus online (including Cottage Inn's), but have not found Turkey Manhattans (or Hot Turkey Sandwich).... Restaurants in other cities have them, but so far, I don't specifically see anything in Louisville. I may be in trouble already if nobody here has even heard of it, ha.

I am almost positive that Ditto's has something like this on their menu.

Goose Creek Diner does one (hot open faced Turkey sandwich) as well as a roast beef one. Comes with one side item and their mashed potatoes are very good.

Ah, so close! Beef Manhattans did come along before Turkey Manhattans, and I see they also have their version of the Hot Brown, the existence of which is probably why we don't seem to have Turkey Manhattans in Louisville...

That last response was to Buckheads... thanks for the other suggestions, everybody! I'll check 'em out.

By the way, here's the article that got my cravings going:
