Habana Blues - WOW

by NDDuncan » Tue Apr 19, 2011 6:27 pm

Went Sunday evening with Dean, my sis & her hubby. While reviewing the menu, I just kept getting this feeling of deja vieux (sp?)...while we were eating, it hit me...so I inquired and sure enough, I was right....I was enjoying Mojito's menu/food for less $$$!!! :) Where else can you go and try 9 different dishes (3 apps., 4 tappas, 1 pollo paella, and a dessert, plus a round of cocktails for everyone) for around $25/person, INCLUDING a 23% tip?

The owner is Fernando's brother and their chef worked w/ Fernando to set up Mojito's menu - what a "pedigree"...!

First, we put in an order of the arroz con pollo (their version of chicken paella). For apps - we had the ceviche of the day (great - I could eat it everyday) guacamole w/ plantain chips, house marinated olives; tappas - queso fundido, tamale, steak chimichurri, empanandas; then came the paella. We finished with the churros w/ chocolate ganache. Hubby had the classic mojito, I had the passion fruit caiparaina, sis had a curacao (?) ice tea, and her hubby had a couple of beers. We thought everything was delish except the tamale - bro-in-law and I really liked it a lot, but not Dean and my sis. Oh - and we took home enough paella to feed my daughter and her friend. I asked what we had to do to get them closer to home...I was told good things are coming

In the meantime, I will gladly make the trip across the bridge for Habana Blues - there's still a lot on the menu to be sampled! And I know it will always be worth the trip!! 8)

I'm so glad you enjoyed Habana Blues in downtown New Albany! One of my very favorite places!

i've been enjoying Habana Blues since last autumn. LOVE what the'yre doing, serving, and the value they're providing. A month doen't go by that I don't stop in once (at least) for some Albondigas, Gambas al Ajillo, and Mojillones al Sofrito... among other things.

It's a great asset to our local dining scene. I told my wife I hope they benefit from the error by Louisville Magazine that still lists that address as Windsor! I was amazed to see that listed in the April edition, along with the defunct White Oak. Both of those places closed last fall, if not summer - not sure, and after all these months Louisville Magazine still lists them. Odd nobody did a check before the edition went to the printer.

Wow and WoW!
Went for dinner after reading the raves above. We had mojito's followed by sweet potato fries, scallops, mussels, tenderloin, and lamb chops. All delicious.. This place is a true delight! In New Albany-- hadn't been there for 20 years-- and it was hopping on market street.

I've never been there before. I live in Indy now but visit Louisville quite often. I've always enjoyed Havana Rumba, are they still open? Cuban food is one of my favorites and hard to find in the mid west.

Does any of the Cuban restaurants have coupons available?

Welcome to the forum, Abby! Havana Rumba is indeed still open - in fact, it has spun off Havana Rumba II, which is out in Middletown on Shelbyville Road, not to mention Mojito in Holiday Manor, which is sort of Cuban/Spanish/Caribbean tapas. All three restaurants are hugely popular and very, very good.
