I have been avidly reading this blog for a couple of months now and have learned of many great places to eat and drink. This is my first contribution and I wish to to tell you about this fantastic bar and grill in my local area. This is a place “where everybody knows your name” and an establishment with big plans!
The Fireside Grill is not new; in fact it has been at its location near the intersection of Hwy 60 and Charlestown road for over 25 years. It is owned and lovingly operated by Neal and Patty Smith and their wonderful daughter, Lauren. This place has always been a successful eatery as evidenced by its long existence. But in the last few years it has undergone some tasteful upgrades to the decor and some rather more startling changes to its beer selection and food options.
Neal and Patty give all the credit for the recent inclusion of craft beers to daughter Lauren. Lauren went off to live in New York City for several years and worked in the upscale food and beverage industry. While there she took full measure of the vast selection available in that eating and drinking mecca and she brought back an appreciation for flavorful beers and complex foods. Patty says she already knew plenty about wines.
So along with beers from Bells, Brooklyn Brewery, New Belgian, Three Floyds and others on the rotating taps and a larger variety in the bottle, you can enjoy a varied selection of delicious and surprising menu selections. See the full menu and beer options here firesidebarandgrill.net/.
Now the most exciting part! The Smiths aren’t planning to stop with these latest changes. They are planning a PIG ROAST and BRISKET barbecue featuring beer from NABC on May 28th, a chauffeured BREWERY TOUR to four or five local brewers in June possibly including Power House Brewing in Columbus, Big Woods Brewing in Nashville, Upland and Bloomington Brewing in Bloomington and of course our own NABC in New Albany. Early fall could see a CLAM BAKE! All of these exciting events are still in the planning stage and will depend on interest from the community. SO FOR GOODNESS SAKES - stop in and let Neal, Patty, and Lauren know if you would like to attend these events! Even if these events don’t interest you, stop by and talk to Patty. She’s from Boston and has never spoken an “r” when an “a” would do betta!
