Help: Restaurant in Midway/Lex area ?

by Deb Hall » Mon Apr 18, 2011 4:46 pm

All,

We are taking our Korean customers to Woodford Reserve for a tour May 6th ( Oaks) morning and now our schedule has changed to potentially going to a horse farm for a tour after. Can anyone recommend a nice restaurant in Midway, Versailles or Lex for lunch? I wanted Holly Hill Inn, but they are closed lunch for private events that week.

Thanks for any assistance,
Deb

There are 2 I am familiar with in addition to Holly Hill.
The Black Tulep

and Heirloom

I ate at Heirloom recently and really enjoyed it. Good luck!

I would second Heirloom. Local chef trained in California. The best burger I ever ate. Varied lunch menu, nice atmosphere. I also would reccomend Wallace Station, just outside Midway on the Old Frankfort Pike. Chris and Quita Michel of Holly Hill Inn are the owners. A corner store turned upscale deli. One of my favorite casual eats in the Lexington area.

Walace Station on the Old Frankfort Pike just out of Midway is great! It was on DDD from the Food Network.

Thanks, all!
Love Wallace Station myself but it's a bit too casual and they don't take reservations. Oaks Dat is the biggest day of the year for Woodford so I assume restaurants will be swamped...

Heirloom is sounding good. Any other suggestions?

Restaurant recommendation near Versailles, KY

by B. Morris » Mon Apr 18, 2011 11:44 pm

If you really want to WOW your guests and don't mind a 10-to-15-minute "back-roads" drive from Versailles to Nonesuch, KY, you might want to consider trying to get reservations at The Glitz Restaurant in the Irish Acres Gallery of Antiques.

http://irishacresgallery.com/the-glitz/

Although lots of people in central KY have never heard of the place, it's well known among the fine-antiques connoisseurs of Manhattan, Philadelphia & Boston. The owners have converted an old school building into a unique "destination experience" that's hard to define without seeing it in person. Everyone we've ever taken there for the first time walks through the "plain" front entrance door and stands in the foyer for a few seconds with their mouth open in amazement before they're able to utter a word.

The Glitz restaurant, located downstairs in the building, is open for lunch only, and I feel safe in saying that it would be a dining experience your guests will tell people about when they return home.

Definitely second the Glitz. Go to the Irish Acres site noted on the Net, and they'll have directions as well as a sample menu. Your party will never believe that something like this is in nowhere Kentucky!

Note that if you happen to go there using a GPS, it'll take you to a spot diagonally across the street - the Glitz/Irish Acres is an historic 3 story former girl's bording school, with the main & second floor filled with phenomenal antiques and eclectic "stuff", and the ground floor/basement the restaurant.

It truly has to be seen to be believed!

Thanks for all the suggestions. It's amazing what this group knows about!

The Glitz sounds like a real find and I'll keep it in mind for future excursions. However, I was a little concerned about not having time to shop once we were there with our guests. We have a reservation for lunch at Heirloom. :D

Thanks, folks. My company is very impressed that I always know the best restaurants...
