Red Hog Tapas - Fantastic

by JustinHammond » Sun Apr 17, 2011 11:59 am

I'll make this short and sweet; go as soon as possible. The food and beer are fantastic. I'm not a wine person, so all I can say about the wine is that they have it. I'd guess they have around 30 bottles. The only thing that needs improvement is the service. It's not bad, but could use some work.

Below is what we tried. They were all great with the blue cheese/bacon bruschetta and the pizza being the standouts. It gets my vote for best pizza crust in Louisville.

They open at 7:00 (Thur-Sat), fill up fast and turn few tables; so get there very early.

Bruschetta - $4

Pear, Manchego, Bellota Ham, Wildflower Honey
Lardo, Black Pepper, Arugula
Hogs Head Cheese, Chopped Pickle, Black Pepper
Maytag Blue Cheese, House Bacon, Maple Syrup

Pizza - $12
Egg, House Cured Bacon, Arugula

I couldn't agree more! My husband and I went 2 weeks ago and we're still talking about it.

We had the bruschetta with pear, manchego, ham, honey, etc. as well as the blue cheese and bacon and they were amazing. We also had sauteed chicken livers with a caper vinaigrette, braised pork belly, pulled pork pizza and 5 cheese and lardo pizza. For dessert (not on the menu) we had a tiny lemon creme brulee with an almond cookie and a flourless chocolate cake.

Gluttonous, yes, but fantastic!
