Palombino unveils AP Crafters gastropub plan @ Westport Vill

by Robin Garr » Tue Apr 12, 2011 4:18 pm

This is in the former Indigo Joe's. Asked about its proximity to Boombozz Taphouse in Westport Village, Palombino laughed, "They won't serve pizza."

NEWS RELEASE

Tony Palombino to Open New Restaurant Concept in Westport Village

Food and hospitality veteran Tony Palombino, who opened his first Louisville restaurant 14 years ago, will unveil a new culinary venue this spring in Westport Village.

Taking the space that formerly housed Indigo Joes, A.P. Crafters Kitchen & Bar– Handcrafted food, craft beer and spirits where the American tavern meets the European gastropub, will offer patrons a perfect spot to kick back and 'roost'. It will offer an extensive local selection of craft beers on tap, a full bar with an emphasis on prohibition style spirits and a well thought out menu of creative comfort food. The interior takes its cue from the restaurant’s name, featuring floor to ceiling shelving stocked with a copper collection of vintage cookware, distillery and brewery supplies. Reclaimed wood and custom furniture in espresso stained ash will be featured throughout the space. The bar area will boast several HDTV’s for watching sports and comfortable seating, creating a relaxed and unpretentious gathering place.

A gastropub is a relatively new category of food and beverage establishment that incorporates the feeling and look of a traditional pub or tavern with an innovative high quality culinary menu. “Pubs” being traditionally derived from “public houses” that offered food to passers-by evolved over the years into more elaborate bars with homemade, rich comfort food traditional of the country where they were established. The “gastropub” is the next evolution of the concept making the food as important if not the most important part of the establishment.

A.P. Crafters will be hiring 120 exceptional individuals. Slated to open in mid-May, the company will be hosting a job fair from April 20-22, 9am-6pm at the location, 1321 Herr Lane, STE 130 in Westport Village (corner of Westport Road & Herr Lane).

Applications will be accepted in person during the job fair for a variety of front of house and back of house positions, including hosts/hostesses, servers, bartenders, line cooks, prep cooks and dishwashers.

Here's another article about the restaurant that was recently published in InsiderLouisville. It's got a little more information than what's posted above.

Best of luck to them. Couldn't help but think while reading the presser, is there any wave this place isn't going to ride? Local! Prohibition Era Spirits! Craft! Upscale Comfort Food!

Can't wait to read reviews about how "unique" the place is.

To be clear. I hope they succeed. I really do. It's just that I lack the ability to read a presser, know that it's a presser, and, yet, refrain from puking a little in my mouth. I should work on that.
Thinks the frosty mug is the low point in American history.

I think this place will do well - I personally really like the Taphouse and it's usually my first suggestion for a meeting place with friends. I really like the fairly recent upgrade in their beer selections. Occasionally, I'll compromise with the wine drinkers and meet at Napa River. Napa's selection of bottle only beer is lacking, at best.

Sounds like this place will be a nice happy place between those two options in Camelot, er, Westport Village.

Cheers,

Doug
