As if i don't drink enough....

by Troy McIntyre » Tue Apr 12, 2011 12:00 am

I love drinking. Bourbon and vodka are a very important part of my life. Up until this point, I'm not a beer fan. I don't like what I have tried.

The most exotic beer I have had is something on the level of Bud Light Lime, so I am by no means experienced in the beer world.

There appears to be several beer experts that post here.

So, I am asking for your expert advice. Of all the "categories" of beers, give me one to try.

I'm new to the area, but have heard many good things about New Albanian. I live about a 30 second drive from there, so any particular recommendations from there would be appreciated.

Troy, my feelings are that if you like vodka and bourbon, then drink vodka and bourbon and embrace it! No one says everyone has to drink beer, maybe its just not for your pallet. If you are determined to drink beer then I would suggest starting with something along the lines of a cider or a wheat. Oaken Barrel, which is made in Indiana, makes a great Razz Wheat which we carry @ The NA Exchange, and its our #1 craft selling bottle. If you enjoy bourbon you may want to try BBC's Bourbon Barrel Stout. At the end of the day it's all about enjoying a great beverage, whether it be bourbon or beer, or anything else for that matter.

Along with great local craft brewers you can also buzz over to Clarksville where "The Keg" Liquors has hundreds of different bottled beers from around the world. I'm sure they can also give you a bit of advice.

Go to the NABC and start with a Community Dark. It is very easy to drink and full of flavor.

Most of the "Irish" places on Bardstown Rd sell samplers, which is a good way to try 5 beers for the price of one.

Westport Whisky and Wine also hosts a beer tasting the first Fri. of each month.
