Where was this neighborhood tavern and cafe?

I am not sure but could that be Check's (Chex or some such sp.) Cafe ?
in Germantown. I am not sure.

Plus, the back door of Flabby's is on the <i>left</i>. Same goes for Nord's, now that I think of it.

Haucks on Goss? You know, the Dainty contest place! The recipe does not sound like any thing from my experiences at Flabby's, Checks, Nord's, or the Old Hickory. Sorry to say I have never been inside Hauck's, just outside for the Dainty contest, so I do not know the layout or the menu. Or the Germantown Cafe, also on Goss?

I too wondered if it was the Germantown Cafe. I've never been in there but it fits the description of the building. Bill, do you remember there being a duck on the sign?

It's Germantown Cafe, Steve Levell - it is also referred to as Germantown Duck club and there is a duck on the sign.

My wife used to work in Germantown. She says that it sounds just like Germantown Cafe. It was also called Duck III Cafe on the sign maybe. Close to the intersection of Texas and Goss Ave. Long and narrow inside with dark wood booths all along one side. Good food, nice service

I looked up a photo of Haucks -- that's not it, but I remember the store. That's the street, for sure. Haucks was on the opposite side of the street, and west of the place where we ate. I'm prettysure it was closer to Archie Bunker's place than a college hangout.

Bill, I think it's just about dead certain that you found your way to the Germantown Cafe. You'll just have to come back to Louisville and check it out again!
