Dogfish Head pulling distribution from IN & other states

by Jeff U » Fri Mar 25, 2011 2:31 pm

Perhaps old news, but for Hoosier beer lovers, soon you will have to cross the river to get Dogfish 60 minute / 90 minute etc. based on their recent blog (http://www.dogfish.com/community/blogfi ... anding.htm)

Demand is up and production cannot keep up, so they are pulling back from TN, WI, IN and RI.

Fortunately there are now many great choices for Hoosiers not able to get Dogfish including Three Floyds and our local NABC, which is quickly expanding tap locations and bomber distribution.

Cheers

So What!?..I have to cross the river to get my Flat Tire fix.....
While I'm on the subject,,,,And I don't complain about beer that much, as we have great stuff locally but....What do we have to do to get some Pete's Wicked Ale around here?

Sad news for those in IN who enjoy Dogfish. I consider it to be an overrated product, more hype than quality.
Thinks the frosty mug is the low point in American history.

Buy the brand, Dan. From Wikipedia:

Pete's Wicked Ales's brand owner, The Gambrinus Company, has sent letters to their distributors saying that as of March 1st, 2011 the Pete's Wicked Ale brand will be discontinued, citing "rapidly declining sales volumes".

I was going to suggest "Go back in time", but that works too.

In other other beer news, Chicago-based Goose Island brewery sold to Anheuser-Busch.

So I have to ask the local brewers: If iNbEV rode into town and offered you a boatload of money for your brand, would you sell?

Hasn't Goose Island been "distributed by" A-B for many years? I expect the camel's nose was already well into the tent.

It all depends on the definition of boatload.

A man walks into a bar and asks an attractive woman "Would you sleep with me for a million bucks". "Well DUH" the attractive woman replied "of course I'd sleep with you for a million bucks". "Well" asked the man, "would you sleep with me for 10 bucks"...."Of course not" replied the woman..."what the hell do you think I am" ? To which the man replied "We've already determined that honey, we're just negotiating price now"...

...Soooooooooooo. Now that we've taken care of that...What is YOUR definition of a "boatload" Roger ? 8)

Everyone is for sale, always.

When the papers are signed and the cash changes hands, reality enters a different phase, just as it did with Goose Island, which no longer matters now that an international mass-market producer owns it in its entirety. Not bad, not good, just irrelevant.

So ... I'd say the definition of boatload is: Enough to be able to sleep at night while learning a new trade.

The Craft [sic] Brewers Alliance (Widmer, Red Hook, Kona) owned 42% of Goose Island. 33% of CBA is owned by AB/Inbev. When the 42% was sold to CBA, that got Goose in with the AB distribution network.

AB is now buying the other 58% and also buying the 42% from CBA.
