Dinner At Hillbilly Tea

by Carolyne Davis » Mon Mar 21, 2011 10:45 am

We decided to take a stroll down to Hillbilly Tea last night and try them for dinner. It was my first time in and I just love the place! The whole thing was really great from the minute we walked in until we stuffed ourselves with the delicious desserts! We started out with vegetable soup and white bean and sage fritters for apps. Both were really good, hot, fresh and yummy! The BF got the Cornish Hen with cornbread stuffing and braised greens and I got the smoked catfish with braised greens and squash chips. Let's just say that if the Cornish Hen had been boneless and it wasn't rude to do so in public, we would have actually picked up our plates and licked them clean! I could live on the braised greens alone! This place is just lovely, the staff was friendly and when there was some minor confusion with how to apply our restaurant.com certificate, they even offered some free desserts! The decor is more old Americana country than hillbilly to me, but also integrated with a definite sophisticated upscale flair. Very comfortable. Can't wait to go back! :-)

I agree. I love it there, and everything we had was well conceived and well executed. I understand they now have a license to serve beer and/or wine, and am looking forward to a return visit.

I had the pleasure of trying Hillbilly Tea for the first time during an outing around Lunch Time. I was not disappointed.

Spring onion soup w/ pea shoots
Smoked catfish w/ lemon tartar sauce and cornbread stuffing

And I can't recall the tea, but it was a decaf. And extremely tasteful. Very knowledgeable/friendly service and great atmosphere. I'll definitely return. Hopefully first for breakfast. My favorite meal of the day. Give it a try if you're in the neighborhood.

*I'm not affiliated in anyway with Hillbilly Tea. But would happily go along with you on your trip to prove I was right. :)

Yup - Hillbilly's the cat's pajamas. I love to hear that they may have an alcohol license, but the tea selection would be hard to overlook in place of something hard. I would be wayyy down for an offline if anyone else was interested.

Had a really great dinner at Hillbilly tea last night!

I chose the meatloaf, two thick slices of meat that was accompanied by a small jar of tomato jam.
The jam was to be spread by the lovely sterling silver butter knife in the "setup" that was secured with a clothes pin

There were two sides with the meat, perfectly cooked, buttered green beans that has a little "snap", and slightly garlicky. Yum. Also, big chunks of perfectly roasted sweet potatoes, and a thick slice of corn pone.

I took a glance at the teas, only to realize that they had sassafras soda made from scratch (no refills, but worth it.) Not too fizzy, and not too sweet, and arrived in a lovely mug.

Here is the web link,

If the rumor that the owner of this great place is opening a Patisserie, that to will be a great success.
I can't wait to get back to Hillbilly tea for breakfast!

The lavender soda is also amazing. I'll have to try the sassafras next time :)
