The kids are in town - Where to go for St. Pats revelry ?

by Steve P » Wed Mar 16, 2011 6:53 pm

My 24 y.o. daughter and her friend are in town and want to "kick up their heals" for St. Patty's Day. Right now they are leaning towards the BBC/Molly Malones/O'Sheas area of Shelbyville Rd. Any other suggestions for beer/cocktails and reasonably good bar fare for a couple of young adults ? What time of day do things get shaking anyway ? BTW...this is on DAD'S dime...so lets keep his (my) wallet in mind. :?

You've got that option, the Baxter option, Frankfort, and then O'Sheas downtown. Also Shenanigan's on Norris near Bellarmine.

I'd pick the St. Matthews cluster, but, I also would not go out on St. Patrick's Day. With the tournament starting at 12:15, Louisville at 1:40, and UK at 2-something, that's probably when the shenanigans will start. Not sure if there will be a way to tell a difference between all-day NCAA/Pats shenanigans and just evening Pats shenanigans (clothing color?). Might wait until after the UK game to conclude to allow some of the basketball fans to move on out.

The Thursday NCAA opener for UK and UL, and also St. Patrick's Day. Bet there are some work sick days called on come Friday.

The Irish Rover always has nice food and a good crowd for Saint Patrick's day. It's a little more of a food scene than a bar scene but probably a little more authentic in many ways than some of the others. I know you and Becky would like it like Laura and I do but I'm not so sure about your daughter and her friend.

Speaking from experience - I live one block away - Mollys/O'Sheas/Flannagans will start up at lunch. If you go before 4 PM, DO NOT park in the marked area in front of the school. They will tow.

And please, designate a driver.

Responsible young adults like myself already took tomorrow off :-)

I'd agree with St. Matthews... it's a thursday, it's the first day of the NCAA tournament, and it's Saint Patrick's day, so I think ANY bar will be fun/crowded.

I've gone to Bardstown Road the past 2 years, and it has been crowded but not terrible. On a day as nice as today FABD might be a good "starting" option, and they can get a ride from you or a cab to St. Matthews or Bardstown road, depending on how crowded the two are.
