:!: I was just going to post the article when I saw that you had already posted it! Even though the corporate office won't admit to it I think probably that applying for a package of beer and liquor license makes it pretty definite! :!:

Once again I implore Robin (who I love) to please have links open as blank targets. It's my number one issue with this site.

Having said that, BOO YEAH! Trader Joe's it's a chain I'm more than happy to welcome.

Jeremy, alas, it's open-source software run by committee, and targeting links to a new window isn't an option. I don't like it either, but over time, I have learned to Ctrl-click, which accomplishes the desired purpose, at least in my browser (Chrome).

I'm still concerned about TJ's potential impact on locals I love. Yeah, it's not identical to Lotsa Pasta, Rainbow Blossom, Doll's or Burger's, but it does dilute the discretionary food-spending dollar.

I just right click the link and select "Open Link in New Tab."

Just my opinion, but I see TJ's as more of a 'thorn in the paw' of the regular grocers, since most of what they sell is more along the lines of low cost 'cupboard food' than the specialty places like Lotsa Pasta. I use Lotsa for hard to find or high-end ingredients, not for staples, so I will continue to shop there post Joe's for that very reason.

Rainbow Blossom is a different story - TJ's isn't nearly as big of a threat to them as their own pricing is. I like to buy local, but when I can buy online and save money AFTER the shipping is factored in, local becomes a non-option.

I think TJ is a bit over-rated. I'm just not sure what the fuss is all about. I guess they have $2 bottles of wine - but really nothing I can't get elsewhere here. If they think there is market share to be had here - go for it. Between the local specialty stores and Whole Foods - I'm covered.

we HAVE great specialty markets and food purveyors, ethnic food stores spanning SO many cultures and geographies, farmers markets and produce co-ops, etc, ad nauseum. most independant and local. more power to the free market and private economic growth, but DAMN!...now trader joe's is coming into town as if its a brand new concept that noones ever seen before and some people are just googley-eyed over it.
this is Louisville.its awesome. its weird. lets help keep it that way
buy local or... bye, local
