Was in a mtg today with reps from Edible Louisville. Anyone read it regularly? Anyone subscribe? What do you think of it?

I was given a copy last fall. Not bad, but not totally sold on it either.

I didn't subscribe, because I am trying to cut down on the amount of paper that goes through my house. I started reading on line. But here it is March 7 and the March/April issue has yet to appear online.

Additionally the last online issue had an ad from a California tangerine grower. I realize they need to make money, but doesn't that contradict the magazines suposed purposed of promoting local inseason products?

National company provides a template for a local publication with a few local articles dropped in so they can sell local ads.

Well, robin, I guess that explains the California tangerine ads.

Aren't they given away? I've picked up 3 or 4 issues at Carmichael's. I find the articles a bit overwritten, but that is just MHO.

It is a freebie, but they say about 300 people have paid subscriptions. I buy a fair amount of advertising for a group I'm in, and I thought Edible Lou's ad rates were quite high.

Robin hit it on the head. I picked up a copy in another city (which I can't recall right this minute) and it might have been from anywhere in the US. Having said that, I pick it up occasionally (Whole Foods?) and look through it.

This is probably just my liberal/hippie/baby boomer persona talking, but it seems just slightly sleazy to use this national-in-local-dress model to celebrate locavorism.

There are several mags like thins in the area all for different market segments. Their rates tend to run high and their distribution is pretty limited. I haven't seen Edible Louisville yet. Are they bothering to put in local articles in the magazine?

I usually pick up a free copy when they are handed out BRFMarket. The most recent issue I have is the meat issue. It seemed to me there was more"local" content(other than ads)in this issue. There was an article about a farm tour in Western Ky,a Sarah Fritshner article about Stone Run farms, article about Ky meat distribution/industry,article touching on KY bison production and a section containing recipes from local meat markets like Valu-market and Mikes Best. Overall its a pretty lite read, but I do go through it. Not sure if Id pay for it,but for free its not that bad. We looked at dropping an ad once but the cost didnt seem worth it. We do get a small name drop in the full page ad BRFMarket puts in.
The tall one wants white toast, dry, with nothin' on it.
And the short one wants four whole fried chickens, and a Coke.

I will pick up and read the NY edition when it's given out. In fact I was reading the latest issue this morning. It's worth reading but I don't know that it's worth paying for if you're already in touch with what's happening in foodie circles. Also, most of the articles are very adulatory rather than investigative, which is great publicity for those profiled, but gets tired.

This reminds me that I let my Pizza Today subscription lapse.
I am the original Mike G, never mind the impostor.

I am kind of a big deal.

Love it!!!!! Read every issue cover to cover, and have actually made special trips to the Farmer's Market at times to pick-up the latest ( free) issue.
