BBQ options

by MarieP » Sat Mar 05, 2011 6:52 pm

So I'll be in the Kenwood area for lunch (on a Wed., when Vietnam Kitchen is closed), and I noted there are three BBQ restaurants in that area!

Rubbies, Jimbo's, and Finley's

I'd try all three if I could....suggestions anyone?

Marie, Jimbo's is a nice little family place just outside the entrance to Iroquois Park, just a few blocks out from VK. I'm not sure how a serious barbecue judge would rate it, but I've enjoyed lunches there. Here's their Website:

Thanks for the local's good counsel, Gary. Sounds like I need to get over there from Crescent Hill.

Wow....that sounds soooo good!! Were they at the fair or at a Farmer's Market? For some reason they sound familiar.

It's in an old log cabin with a giant smoker built onto the back of it. This guy seriously knows how to make BBQ and the sides and sauces are great as well. You can smell it on the way up to the door. Nice people too.

I have a friend who live out that way, and when I visit I always try to stop at The Shack. Im not a BBQ expert but I always thought they were really good. I was hoping our resident BBQ guy(Steve P) would get out there and make a review.
The tall one wants white toast, dry, with nothin' on it.
And the short one wants four whole fried chickens, and a Coke.

Shack in the Back is the best BBQ in town, imo.

...ask for a side of the 'white sauce', it's not on the menu. Goes GREAT w/ their smoked turkey.

Great place.

If you are jonesing for Vietnamese food on a Wednesday when VK is closed, I HIGHLY recommend Pho Binh Minh on Strawberry Ln., just down from Southside Dr.
It's one of Louisville's hidden culinary gems and much cleaner than VK. :D
