Greek Lunch (iousness)

by Heather Y » Wed Mar 02, 2011 5:16 pm

Well, I must say I had probably one of the best Gyro in a veeeeerrry long time today.

Ready for lunch, we were narrowing down the "what are we craving, up for" ,and decided on Middle Eastern.
Not being able to come up with anything other than the usual suspects we opted for a close second, Greek!

Driving down Westport Road, my son decided to "hotbyte", and read briefly about Sahara cafe, and stumbled upon "AJ's Gyro. I said ooooh, and asked want take a little trip?. Unfortunately, the reply was no as he just made the trek by car from Charlotte, NC, and did not feel like driving.

Alas, we decided upon "It's all Greek to me"!

Counter service only after reading the menu, and they will bring it to your table.

Delish.
The gyro came fully filled on warm grilled Greek pita, the Tzatziki sauce was a thick Greek yogurt at the right temp to stay in the sandwich (not cold and runny like others). Two slices of tomato on either side of the pita made for easy handling, and the onions and garlic were present but not overpowering.
The gyro was neatly wrapped in a piece of Aluminum foil that was easy to peel to reveal each bite of yummy.

Ugghh, I ate the whole thing.

Two sandwiches, one side of "oven roasted potatoes" (peeled and I believe included chicken fat, not for veg/vegans) one ice water, and one ice tea (also very good) $22 . Worth every penny!

No dinner for me tonight!

Their lamb gyro is amazing, better than any other in town. Very moist & full of flavor, not dry like most.

Heather, not sure if you meant a trip to Sahara Cafe or to A.J.'s. Glad you didn't because we don't open for the season until tomorrow so it would have been a wasted trip for you. If you meant me, then I hope to see you soon. :D

IAGTM's gyros is amazing. Best I've had in Louisville, and gives my hometown favorite (King Gyro in Columbus, OH) a run for its money.

Allison, I knew Sahara was closed forever, and I knew you were closed for the season, that thought entered my head after he said he didn't to make the trip. But I do, and I will asap!
