The latest issue of 'Imbibe Magazine" gives a list of 100 great places to drink in the South, and Kentucky is certainly represented in many catagories.

Joe's Older Than Dirt
The Horse & Barrel (Lexington)

HOTEL BARS

Nice list, but...

Amazed that Jack's didn't make the list- Joy is nationally known.

It's also a little confusing in that they list the Seelbach and the Brown under Hotel Bars but don't clarify that Silks is the Galt House.

Having been there and tried to do that, I can tell you it's tough to do a story from a distance about a locale that you're not familiar with and get everything right. Including the more basic issue about whether an industrial city in a border state that did not secede during the Civil War is "Southern" at all. Let's just figure it's good to get some publicity. :)

I guess the folks at Imbibe cut off "South" at the Ohio River. NABC certainly should have been on this greater metro's top beer list.

Probably what what was just as confusing was the omission of any locals for the following catagories;

BEST CLASSIC COCKTAILS
BEST CONTEMPORARY COCKTAILS
BEST BAR FOOD
BEST WINE LISTS

But it did have great pictures of Bourbon bistros whiskey selections and Gary Gish, owner of Joe's Older Than Dirt. It also had a series of articles entitled "Spirit of the South", that documented the role of bourbon in the South's history. In-depth discussion of Bourbon families, Bourbon 101, various distilleries, Bourbon styles, Bourbon glossary and Bourbon gear. A detailed timeline of the history of bourbon goes along with description of the Urban Bourbon Passport and the Bourbon Trail.

A must read for every bourbon lover.

They missed the bourbon menu at Lillie's.

BTW...I think the south starts at Elizabethtown. 8)

It actually starts somewhere around Columbus, Indiana. But Louisville-inside-the-Watterson is a big oval hole in it.
