Corydon eats?

by Becky M » Mon Feb 28, 2011 11:08 pm

I will be in Corydon, IN tomorrow with my special little man and want to take the opportunity to maybe grab something to eat. From what i see, there are a crapload of chains, meh. I have seen a couple of itty-bitty Mexican restaurants, but never tried them. Because of him, a basic burger and fries would be great.

Sorry, Becky. Don't have any suggestions for you except Culver's (just past Wal-mart). I'm sure there are some great places down in Corydon that I haven't tried.

lots of restaurants, nothing really spectacular.

I've heard Magdalena's on the square is good.

O'Charleys will have burgers up by walmart, same with cracker barrel.

I like El Nopalito for good chips and queso and cold beer.

Magdalena's on the Square...it's not a 5-star place, but the location and ambience are quaint. The food isn't half bad, and it's locally owned.

You'll see why it's called "the square" when you get there.

Culver's is a (forgive me for blasphemy) . . . chain!

They have "Butter Burgers", which means they butter the buns before toasting them. I don't recall their burgers as knocking my socks off (only tried that once, not a huge burger fan). Hubby can eat burgers 8 days a week and he really liked them.

I find they have some excellent salads and soups and interesting sandwich options -- Walleye fish sandwich, pot roast sandwich, turkey sourdough BLT, shaved prime rib sandwich, pork tenderloin sandwich, grilled ham & swiss, etc. They also got Cheese Curds (deep-fried little balls of cheddar cheese), a Wisconsin mainstay. I've heard lots of folks rave about their fried chicken.

But be sure to save room for dessert -- frozen custard! Yum!

BTW, I've heard from several people that the Culver's in Corydon is far and away superior to the one on Hurstbourne in Louisville.

When you get off I-64, just as you pass the Wal-Mart, turn right into the adjoining shopping center. I think there is a Ryan's there. Culver's is a bit behind Ryans, a bank, etc., but look for the bright blue roof.

Well Lois, you have now put me in a predicament. I am wondering, what would my 3 yr old son want...... Magdalena's (which Mommy loved the menu) or Culver's..... Frozen custard??? In all seriousness, i just want some personal time with my little one..... and i think he might feel more comfortable at Culvers.

I can't imagine Magdalena's not being able to fill this bill. It's seemed friendly for all ages the times I've been, and it ISN'T A CHAIN. :D

I think Culver's is far and away the best chain burger in these parts. Double Butterburger Deluxe with cheese :D . And for some reason, the buns are always hella fresh. Nice to be able to swap out fries for a good little salad on the meak deal, too.
