Los Aztecas on Herr Lane

by Catie Sparks » Fri Feb 25, 2011 9:57 pm

I went in to Los Aztecas tonight to get carryout, and the woman at the counter was someone I had never seen before. I asked her if she was new (we are very much regulars), and she kind of laughed and said, "Yeah, we all are." I looked around and there was not a single familiar face. I asked what happened and she said that they all just up and quit, but it's still under the same ownership.

Does anyone have any more info on this? Part of what we love about this place is the people there, and it just does not feel the same. I'm curious if they did a massive transition to another restaurant in town.

Here are a couple of reasons this might have happened:

The manager pissed off someone really bad and they all quit.
In my experience, the Hispanics I've worked with tend to be fiercely loyal and very dependable if treated fairly and will suddenly disappear if made to feel slighted.

The INS may have had a crackdown. They usually will bust some place every six months or so to make it look like they are doing their job.

Or, they all went back to where they came from. I've worked in a couple of places where the dishwashers would work for 6 or 7 months. Then the one day new people appear in their place using the same SSN and names for payroll. I think I saw over 8 different Jose Gonzales. It was always a relative or close friend replacing the other person whom I was always told, went back home for awhile.

Any of those scenarios is unfortunate. I know some of those employees have been there for years, so my best guess would be that they all up and quit as a group. Fortunately (so far at least) the menu has remained exactly the same.

Thanks for the reply!
