Houston is HUGE.

Seafood: Try but not limited to Old Shuckers All you can eat blue crab, Shrimp and Catfish fillets w/ fries, slaw and some such.

Under $20 bucks.

A couple places south on Westheimer from 10.

A nice big Porterhouse steak? Try Tumbleweed yes Tumbleweed,
16-28 oz cuts....good luck there. mesquite grilled in the middle of the dining
area. Live music on Friday and Saturday nights. Chip Kickin'
The beef is wonderful, a good place. Look to the book for locations.

Be careful down there, always expect bad traffic on 610.

Lived there 9 years. Here are some of my favorites:

Mexican - Pappasitos. Chain, but blows away anything here.

South America - Either Americas (Galleria) or Churrascos (off Shepherd/Westheimer).

Personally think Houston is best on low-cost places like burger joints and mexican than fine dining, but plenty in galleria area, as well as south of downtown.

Lupe Tortilla's. Lupe's is at 318 Stafford in Addicks, at the intersection of I-10 and Highway 6. the best fajitas in Houston.

Cafe Annie: A classic.

Goode Company Texas Barbecue

Hugos for insanely good contemporary Mexican cuisine.

I realize the steakhouse format is about as generic as it gets, but I love Pappas Bros.

Ron mentioned Goode Co. BBQ, GREAT Choice but right across the street is Goode Co Hamburger & Taqueria. Forget the burgers and go for the true Tex-Mex, ummmm.
