Need a place for a family gathering - S. Indiana

by NDDuncan » Mon Feb 21, 2011 10:39 pm

I need a place for 30 - 40 people for a SUNDAY get together (March 6) - from 3-5:30 pm (give or take) in New Albany or Jeff. Need the food (heavy apps/sammies??) set up "buffet" style - in our own "area" (if possible). Not sure what we want just yet - let me know what you've got and some price$ per person for food/drinks (tea, soda, etc.)! Any alcoholic beverages will be ordered off the menu.

Thanks!!

If it were me, I'd give Cast Iron Steakhouse a call and see if they could fit your needs. They definitely have the space for it (very nice atmosphere and located in Jeffersonville along the River) and the menu has something for everyone. Same owner as Buck's in Old Louisville so the quality is there, too. I see this place getting more attention eventually.

You might try Cozza at 214 Court Ave in Downtown Jeffersonville., right off the Kennedy Bridge. They have plenty of room and would have no problem accommodating your group. We had dinner there last Saturday and it was fantastic! I think they could probably work some really nice Italian food up for you guys in the 15-25 bucks a head range. They also have an extensive bar. Call Chef Al at (812) 284-4406

The food is pretty darn good. They have quite a bit of space as well.

I hate to harsh on a place that has just opened but here is my experience with Cast Iron Steakhouse so far.
I called and made a reservation on Saturday morning for 8:00 pm that night. No one answered so I left my reservation information as prompted by the message on the machine. So we show up at 8:00 PM and the placed was PACKED. I guess the word has gotten out. Anyway, the hostess informed us that she had no reservation for us and there was a 45 minute to an hour wait. I'm certainly not going to wait for an hour anywhere, so we left and went to Cozza instead. Being in the "Bizz", I just find it a little hard to understand how no one checked the answering machine in the 11 hours between the time I made the reservation and later showed up for it.

Kinda reminds me of the Seinfeld episode where Jerry says "See, you know how to take the reservation, you just don't know how to *hold* the reservation and that's really the most important part of the reservation, the holding. Anybody can just take them.

River City Winery

Private room(s) upstairs, and they've had a chef now for a while that does pretty darn good food. Melissa is a friend of mine -- giver her a call at 945-WINE.

Make sure you get a tour of the tanks in the basement. The old Baer building is pretty neat.

Cast Iron I think has it's days numbered - even though it has good crowds on the weekend nights, I have to think that a place can't sustain itself with mediocre service and uninspired food (my 0.02). We got seated in the far room with more than ample space in the main room, no other parties were seated so I guess we were lepers to them. My salmon was about 5 oz. and way overpriced, my wives sirloin lacked much flavor, no seasonings - just blah; sides were indifferent. Then again Cheddars has much the same fare and service and they have defied my logic, so maybe they'll flourish. I'd pick the side room at Kingfish in Jeff before I ever wanted to go back to C.I.S.
