Mayan Cafe

by Javier Cendejas » Fri Aug 24, 2007 12:23 am

I have been out of town for a couple of months on business and pleasure and just got back only to find with great pleasure the Mayan Cafe has received an excellent write up on the Louisville Magazine. Congratulations to Bruce - I surely will visit soon.

Welcome home, Javier! I hope your travels were pleasant ones.

That's good news about Mayan Cafe ... I haven't seen Louisville magazine yet, but will check their website to see if the review is accessible online.

I reviewed Mayan Cafe most recently in LEO and LouisvilleHotBytes on June 27, by the way ... maybe you were out of town then.

Definitely worth many visits. Bruce may have actually gotten better than his last two places. Not to mention that he one of nicest people in the restaurant business.

I had dinner at Mayan Cafe last night. A really pleasant meal. I don't know why it has been so long since I've been. I was with a large group so we ordered most of the appetizers and shared them. All were outstanding, and several actually outshone the main courses. The habanero sauce that came with the calamari ceviche was amazing.

I had the lamb with limas and plaintains. My wife had the same sides with the trout. Both were really bursting with flavor. The limas were excellent as usual. We bought very fairly priced wines: an Albarino and a Malbec to accompany dinner. Banana churros and really good Jackson's Organic coffee rounded out the meal. Service was friendly and efficient.

All of that food and wine for $60 per couple. Can't beat that with a stick.
