J. Gumbo breakfast re-visited

by Steve A » Sat Feb 12, 2011 7:55 pm

After an eight month hiatus, we finally made our way back to J. Gumbo on Frankfort
for breakfast. In a word it was great!

As soon as we sat down our server offered coffee and beignets, and we gladly accepted.
Offered as an order of three or six (we had three), the beignets were hot, fresh pillows drenched in powdered sugar.

For breakfast I had the eggs Ponchetrain, basically a benedict except with shrimp etoufee as the sauce. The sauce was nice and zippy, and the poached eggs huge and done just right.

Barbara had the breakfast special, which was poached eggs perched on top of polenta and crab cakes, then topped with hollandaise and a few large shrimp. Once again, done just right.

Our server was friendly, attentive and efficient.

We're glad we went back, but sorry we waited so long.

Thank you so much for the kind words! I've said it once, I'll say it again, Debbie knows her breakfast and she knocks it out of the park every time. Great home-style breakfast with Cajun flair!
