by Jessie H » Fri Feb 04, 2011 4:44 pm

i'm having some family members over on tuesday to celebrate my dad's birthday. he wants cheesecake for his birthday cake. i wanted to make one but i don't have a springform pan or a hand mixer. can someone recommend where i could buy a good cheesecake for a reasonable price? i'd like to have enough cake to serve 8 people.

Adam Matthews makes a pretty good cheesecake. I think you can pick them up at any Homemade Ice Cream and Pie Kitchen in town.

If you're up for a little drive to Mt Washington, hit the Cafe at Main Street. It's a little cafe inside the Main Street Market. My wife and I had a couple of their desserts at a party, and had to check the place out ourselves. Best cheesecake I've ever had..no doubt about it. They've got other cakes and pies to choose from as well.

Doesn't Cake Flour do cheesecakes? With all respect to Adam Matthews, I'd rather get a cheesecake or almost any other dish from a good pastry chef's hands than from a factory line that ends up with it in a cardboard box.

The Bakery at Sullivan does (Gardiner Ln and Bardstown Road). You need to give them 48 hrs notice, though. 502-413-8681.

Cake Flour sounds like a good choice, too. And, believe it or not, Adam Matthews cheesecakes are really great. And so are the HIC&Pie Kitchen's.

They're certainly good. And I have been known to eat baked goods that come from a box. I'm all over Pepperidge Farm stuff and Thomas English Muffins. 8)

We had some awesome cheesecake at Majid's last night, maybe they will make you a whole one.

Doesn't Doll's Market have a ton of locally made whole desserts?

We'd be happy to make you one at Sweet Surrender! We do a basic cheesecake, with your choice of topping, or we've recently been making a Chocolate Raspberry Swirl Cheesecake. That one is available tonight at the cafe, by the slice, if you'd like to come in and try it.
