Louisville Soiree Society is a social club several friends and I started a few months ago. We started with a vision of a diverse group of people who would meet monthly at a locally owned restaurant. We develop a three course fixed menu with the restaurant at a price lower than if one were to dine alone. Each month a member brings a guest or two who they feel will add to the dynamic of the group. While there are still areas for improvement, we have been pleased with each event. So far our group, which averages around 25-30 people, has dined at Artemisia, The Mayan Cafe, and Havana Rumba. Each restaurant has surpassed our expectations with their professionalism and the quality of their food offerings. Our next event is planned for tomorrow at Proof, and we are hoping for our biggest and best event yet. Our goal is pretty simple, to support our thriving local restaurant scene through the bringing together of old friends and new acquaintances. We are excited to see and taste what the future of the group will bring.

What a great concept! Will you keep people posted on this forum? Or is it already on the offline planner, and I just haven't been paying attention? Sounds like something we'd like to particpate in!

Can you give us more info about your group?...Do you have dues?..How formal or informal are your gatherings? Is it more about "networking" or the dining experience....Or is this still so new that you aren't sure?...

I appreciate the interest and kind words. This group is still a work in progress so I'll try to fill in holes and answer questions as best I can.

To come to a dinner you must be either a member or have been invited by a member. Currently, membership has yet to be more formalized than who is on our email list. This is about 20 people who have shown a consistent interest in our events and who share the society's goals. While not every member can make each event, those who can attend are encouraged to invite a new guest(s) to the dinner, resulting in a number of diners close to 30. We hope to create a formal membership in the near future as we develop a strong core of 20-30 people.

I'd love if everyone on the forum could attend, but most restaurants are limited in space and number they can seat comfortably. That being said, it could be fun to reserve 5 spots for forumites who have an interest. I can post future events in the Offline planning section, and the first five to respond get the seats.

Do you have dues?

The only expense to the members and guests is their meal and we plan to keep it that way.

How formal or informal are your gatherings?

We consider the society formal and we try to take a formal approach to the events, but the events themselves are informal. We want to encourage the enjoyment of food and people without anyone feeling stuffy or self-conscious.

Is it more about "networking" or the dining experience....Or is this still so new that you aren't sure?...

Each person approaches it differently. Some put more emphasis on the dining experience while others prefer the social aspect of the events. We like the balance we have seen between the two.

I hope I have been able to answer most of your questions, but keep them coming. Thanks.

I see. That makes sense, and thanks for expounding. Not sure we'll ever be invited, but would it be possible for those in the group to summize a brief review after each culinary adventure? Just a thought...

For our next event we will reserve five spots for forumites who would like to join us. I will post the event's details in the Offline planning section and the five spots will go to the first to respond. This will allow the forum to get more involved without being personally invited. Concerning reviews, I'd be happy to write a brief summary after each culinary adventure.
