Thai Taste and Jade Garden

by Jess T » Thu Feb 03, 2011 10:14 am

This is terrible because I drive by it every day but has Thai Taste closed? Someone said it is now Jade Garden. Anyone been?

(Edited to reflect that Thai Taste and Jade Garden are on opposite sides of Kenilworth on Lower Brownsboro Road. :) )

That would be sad. :( We drive by it often, and it was Thai Taste within the last week or two. I had been wondering, though, as the family that had been in charge of Thai Taste for some time seemed to have been gone the last few times we were in.

Now I heard they may actually be beside each other so Robin can you delete my post? I don't want to cause a fire storm!

Oh, wait ... Jade Garden is the buffet in the building on the other side of Kenilworth from the strip that Thai Taste is in. D'oh! I do think Thai Taste may have a new manager or front-of-the-house staff, though.

Rather than delete, let's give a little love to Thai Taste, but I'll change the subject line ...

I have to admit that I haven't been to Thai Taste in a bit, but my passion for their pad thai is now renewed. I hope change of management doesn't result in less quality or closing. :(

I will say we try to split our time between Simply Thai and Thai Taste, but Simply Thai's yellow curry special over wheat noodles keeps sucking me in.

I have had incredible Pad Thai at Thai Taste, but being a family-run, one-cook establishment, it can vary from day to day. Happily, the variation is usually from Quite Good to Outstanding.

Thai Taste was our go to Thai restaurant for years. Our last 3 trips have not been up to prior standards - and we don't recognize the staff that had been stable for years. If things are back on track I'd love to go back.

Tried Thai Taste last night and the food was pretty good. Their Pad Thai is a very close 2nd to Simply Thai; just not enough sweetness to knock out my reigning champ. We also tried some steamed dumplings that I thought were fantastic.

Normally, I'd vote for Simply Thai for the best Pad Thai, but suggest you try Wild Ginger (in Louisville speak, located where Cafe Metro used to be). It's not a "traditional" Pad Thai - sort of their ideosynchratic version of it - but it's unbelievably addictive!

I had it during my review visit,
http://www.louisvillehotbytes.com/wild- ... ian-fusion

Liked it okay, if not quite as addicted as you were. Here's what I wrote about it:

Pad Thai with shrimp ($14) was generously portioned but idiosyncratic; its flavor owed more to “fusion” than to any authentic Thai recipe. A large mound of rice noodles (bean sprouts were merely a side garnish) bore a salty, aromatic sauce, eight or 10 medium shrimp, chopped peanuts, scrambled egg, pressed tofu and sprigs of fresh basil. Not bad, and so plentiful that the boxed leftovers were good for two lunches.
