Need ideas for 40th b-day celebration

by JenS » Mon Jan 31, 2011 5:09 pm

Help!

I've been racking my brain for a great local restaurant at which to host a birthday meal for my husband.

The problem that I'm up against is that we will have a mixed group of children and adults. Some of the children have more restaurant experience than others. I thought about doing lunch at a more upscale place like Corbett's, but I'm still worried about the atmosphere being a little fancy for this group. Ethnic won't fly with most of the adults(except maybe mexican).

I definitely would prefer spending $$ at a local establishment.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated!
Thanks

To bad ethnic is out. I was going to suggest Sake Blue. We take our kids in there all the time.

Pete,

If it were just my immediate family Sake Blue would be great. Th inlaws aren't adventurous eaters.

Not a local, but I enjoyed a really nice dinner at Buca di Peppo yesterday with 20 of my relatives to celebrate my grandparent's 66th anniversary. Everyone had a ball and the food is not bad, it used to be better, but it's comparable to the old Ray Parrella's
The whole place and family style menu is geared toward accommodating large groups and children are more than welcome.
You could also take a trip out to Joe Huber's in Starlight for some family style Fried Chicken, Chicken-n-Dumplins, and Fried Bisciuts with Apple Butter! :D Now that I think about it, that's where I had my 40th birthday party.

Hadn't even thought about Huber's! Thanks for the suggestion. I agree about Buca Di Beppo, but my husband's family did a group b-day party there last year.

Thank you, Dan. I think that menu has items for the adventurous and non-adventurous. All five of my grandchildren are happy there. My sons like beer list very much (and the wine list isn't bad either).

Since the grandchildren moved back, Boom Bozz seems to be our go to for birthday celebrations--close and the kids love it. Other places we have found that work with the kids and have a broader menus are Irish Rover, Cafe Lou Lou and Burning Bush or Shiraz. For Mexican, we have met family at Fiesta Time and everyone really enjoys it--good food. Meant to add that Baxter Station would be a great idea also.

Stumler's in Borden, IN near Huber's is excellent as well. Similar menu and choices, but cheaper and not as crowded.

What about the Irish Rover? The one on Frankfort has a nice room upstairs and the menu can be either casual or higher end, depending on what everyone wants.

baxter station is great for kids, the train keeps the young ones interested, diverse menu where everyone can find something to eat. and you get double points on your louisville originals reards card if you celebrate on( or go to any louisviile original) the first tuesday of each month.
