Potato Pancakes??

Who has them, and who has the best? NJ makes a mean a$$ pancake at home, but sometimes I crave one as a side when out and about.

My wife and I ate recently at Coach Lamp Restaurant & Pub, 751 Vine St., 583-9165. She had the schnitzel that came with one of the best we'd ever had. I had to try a slice and it was to die for. They don't have it as a side but they should. My wife is of German heritage and even got the chef to come out to tell her how to make them.

Ramsi's has a Potato Pancake side that they serve with sour cream that I enjoy occasionally.

I am also a big fan of the ones at Cafe Beignet on the weekends, served with your choice of sour cream or apple sauce...

Cast Iron Steakhouse in Jeffersonville...

I haven't seen any mention of them on here yet, and I'm very surprised. Same proprietor as Buck's - REALLY stand up guy. They opened at the beginning of December. Curtis Rader's wife, Susie (they both have a wealth of experience in the business), runs the front of house and there are about a dozen other family members or close friends turning the wheels of service and food. Right across the street from Jeff Boat. I had a delicious meatloaf (mom's recipe loaded with carrots, onions, and green peppers) and enormous potato pancake as my side choice. It is NOT a latke, but it's definitely a big delicious potato cake. The meatloaf was out of the ordinary, dense with veggies, and fantastic (with ketchup - I'm sure this could be omitted, Robin - it's applied at the finish of preparation). But I want to go back for a steak and I've told my dad that this HAS to be the next special place we go together. The food and atmosphere are so refined that I really can't believe there hasn't been more mention of it. It's a diamond. And it's closer to my home in the Highlands than the St. Matthews Mall.

Sorry to barge in here, but mine are ...well... unbelievably delicious. Even Robinn had to agree in his fine review of our little cafe. Problem is, I don't them make every day. Let me know a couple of days in advance and I will throw a batch together. You can eat them by the bag. Three bucks per. and they are huge. Enjoy. Bill

On the subject sorta. My mom always made them with left-over mashed potatoes. They really did resemble pancakes. I have also seem them made with shredded potatoes. I have made them both ways but prefer mashed potatoes.
