I usually have one of their salads when I have to go there. The burgers are OK, but no great meals there.

i was actually looking at the salads and burgers, the other dishes just looked like your regular chain-type stuff.

<sigh> We all have our crosses to bear...and most of us have those "Wonder bread" friends who must be accommodated on occasion. My advice would be to select whatever appeals to you at the moment and then DON'T put yourself in a position where a bathroom is not within a few steps for a couple of hours. Good on ya for being a good friend.

For a foodie, it probably does seem grim, Becky, but as you know, it's about the friends. I just looked over Applebee's online and am thinking that some of the low-calorie meals might offer a way to get out without paying too much of a penalty. :)

I think if I were out with friends and Applebee's is where we went, I'd be okay with most of the dishes on the "under 550 calories" page.

Just a thought. I see they do have margaritas, and Sam Adams beer.

I always get the Fiesta Lime Chicken. It's quite tasty, actually! And the Bourbon Street Steak is very flavorful.

Very true Robin, and a lot of people are not open to trying new things. But, like i said before i am there for the company. I might go with a burger, pretty basic.... or a salad. I feel you cant really go wrong with those basic things.

If i was still drinking..... i am sure i would be enjoying the libations.

Speaking of corporate functions, my parents and I went to KT's the other night, and there was a group of 50 people there with a dental firm. We thought we'd have to wait because of all the cars, but turns out they were all in one room.

Oh, and at work, we get our Christmas lunch from Burger's Market (ham on knot rolls and their potato salad....wow....that stuff is pricey but SO GOOD!) We celebrate the "New Year" (August, which begins our fiscal year) with singing My Old Kentucky Home (yes, all verses- they hunt no more for the possum and the coon....) in the library lobby and eating caramel apple pie and chocolate chip pie from the Pie Kitchen.

And Plehn's is a common go-to for employee birthday desserts. Once a patron brought all of us employees donuts from Nord's... :D

Could be worse: Cheddar's, or something equally offensive.

The Fiesta Lime Chicken is good, but high calorie. I was a fan of the Weight Watchers menu they had at Applebee's but haven't been since they changed over to the "under 550 calorie menu."

whenever go to one of these places, I usually stick with nachos. hard to mess up, lots of somewhat-fresh toppings, not as much artificial/frozen weirdness as most of the entrées.

alternately, have them make you a grilled cheese sandwich. this forces them to cook something to-order

Wonton Tacos
Zesty pulled pork stuffed in crispy wonton shells and topped with crunchy Asian slaw and cilantro.
$6.49

I've never had them, but the wife claims they are pretty good.
