Your new look; Should not be required for iPad

by Andrea N. » Thu Jan 27, 2011 5:15 pm

I have an iPad but i am stuck with the iPhone look. I do not need or want the iPhone look or read. I have more than a 2 inch by 4 inch screen. I am now stuck with the iPhone look. Please gIve me the webpage back. If I wanted the iPhone look, I would buy an iPhone. It is difficult to figure out how to get logged in. There are no prompts. I used to be able to scan several postings. Definitely NOT an improvement. Also, I was trying to post this as a reply to the postings about your new look. Would not link there so a new post.

Okay, pulled my iPad out after my last post, it now defaults to the iPhone model as Andrea said. I do not like this at all. I tried to edit my last post and get a weird box with the quoted text from Andrea, but no sight of my post ore a means to edit.

All you have to do is scroll to the bottom of the page and click "view full version."

As an early adopter, I'm familiar with the "view full version". It only works on Louisville Hotbytes, As soon as you press any of the forum links it's back to mobile version.

Mary is working on that ... there's a session variable that should recognize iPads and give them the full view. Be patient, she should have it solved in a day or so.

Correctamundo. We put up the Wordpress plug-in that offers a smartphone view of the HotBytes review pages a few days ago, but the forum plugin for iPhone just went on this afternoon. I told her about the iPad issue right away, and she says she thinks she knows of a way to exempt iPads from the pocket-size view.

Don't worry, iPad users - we won't leave you hanging with this for long!

Art, I'm really sorry. It's not supposed to be that way. We win't leave you guys hanging, especially since I'm hinting for an iPad before spring classes start. ;)

Mary says she may not be able to focus on it until Monday, though. Can you live with "view full site" until then?

Oh it's no problem.

One thing I noticed is if you view a thread, you have to click back twice to get back to the forum you came from.

The first click removes #thread from the URL, the next goes back.

When you say iPod, Mike, do you mean the iPod Touch, which I understand to be basically an iPhone without a phone? I think the assumption here is that most people would rather not do the kind of pulling, poking and stretching involved in viewing entire forum pages n that tiny screen.

Here's the bottom line: Mary has been looking over all the FAQs and the plugin developers' forum, and it seems that we *have* included the necessary code that is supposed to recognize iPads and present them the full forum view, not the smartphone view.

So here's the question: Are any of you skilled PHP programmers? We could use a little volunteer consultation ...
