I don't get the story's slant, or that of the people they interviewed, who think this will make their grocery bills go up. Hello? Bring your own bag! That's the whole idea! It's better than a tax because it influences community behavior and makes the cost optional.

They need to add a 10 cent deposit to all plastic soft drink/water bottles too. I'd vote for that in a heartbeat.

I don't know about Indiana, but in Kentucky, the bottling companies (and maybe the groceries, too) adamantly and fiercely oppose a bottle deposit law. It's often introduced in the legislature, but never gets anywhere, not in the face of the wrath of those well-funded lobby groups.

Hope it passes. Then we can work on deposits for beverage containers.

I just got the baggers at Kroger in Jeff to figure out what to do with my re-usable bags.
I am the original Mike G, never mind the impostor.

I am kind of a big deal.

The toughest part of using re-usables for me is remembering not to leave them in the car.

That is exactly why I go through the self-bag line.

I'll start going through the self-bag line when Kroger starts giving me a discount for scanning and bagging my own groceries.

I personally wouldnt have a problem with it. I find it a little silly that some people in the article said it would mess up their budget and people are already paying high utility bills, etc. I buy a lot of groceries at a time, even if it is fifteen bags of groceries, that is only $1.50 that is not really going to mess up a budget IMO.

I use my own bags as well, when i remember. That is my main problem with using my own bags, i forget them in the car. The other thing is, the employees looking puzzled when i hand them to them.

Actually, i have been splitting my shopping with Aldi's and there you HAVE to use your own bags or grab a box.... so i am getting used to it. I know they have bags for purchase for about six cents, but i really dont see the point in buying them.
