Need suggestions for lunch Thursday

by BevP » Mon Jan 24, 2011 6:13 pm

Ok here is the deal going out for lunch with my best friend of more than 35 years We have been going to the casino on our days together and both of us want to change things up and do a little "retail therapy" I am in the boonies of Bullitt county she is in Fern Creek I will be driving...not opposed to driving a little distance just want to stay on this side of the river. Looking for something with tables we are plus sized don't do well in booths, We like just about any kind of food but think I am looking for something simple and local...no Big Boy or Shoneys
I guess area would be Bardstown Rd east to Brownsboro and towards downtown
Thanks for your help

The Blind Pig in Butchertown? Really a popular newish place, great pork dishes (as the name suggests), but other good stuff, too. Lots of two-top and four-top tables as well as booths. :)

If you want something lighter and/or more ethnic, Dragon King's Daughter on Bardstown Road might be nice, and I'm sure they've got tables.

I am a Blind Pig afficianado, big time, but you also can't go wrong with Shady Lane. I have been there recently and I can vouch that you won't have any booth trouble there. Nice tables, window seating. a FABULOUS burger, one of the best in town. It's easy to get to, too - it's in that shopping center at Brownsboro and the Watterson, the one with Party Mart in it.

If you've been to the Pig but not to Shady Lane, go to Shady Lane! They're different in style, but you should treat yourself to a new experience. And say hi to Bill and Susi - they'll treat you right, just as I'm sure Mike and the gang at the Blind Pig did. :)

Shady Lane is really easy to get to. It's in a shopping center right off the US42/Brownsboro Road exit from the Watterson, going west (back in toward town), turn left at the first traffic light west of the interchange, across Brownsboro from the new Fresh Market.

If you're going OUT Brownsboro Road, it's in your right just before the Watterson, about a mile east of Hubbards Lane and probably less than two miles east of Chenoweth Lane.

Shady Lane is great :)

You might also try Zaytun if you're coming in from Fern Creek. Their gyros are really good, but they also have a pretty tasty fish sammich!

Let me "third" or "fourth" (whichever) Shady Lane...I've had just about everything on the menu and have never-ever been disappointed. It's just about equal-distant from both the Summit and The Mauls for your shopping pleasure.

El Rumbon "The Cuban Trailer" is very close to the malls. There is no seating, but it is some good eatin'.

Thanks for the help Shady Lane will probably work out well for us...I have been wanting to try it and Thursday looks like the perfect chance.
As far as the trailer idea the food sounds great but really want a place to sit and talk for a bit other than the car. I am looking forward to going back to the Blind Pig but I am afraid I will disappoint my husband if I go without him as he about licked his plate.

The Cafe on Broadway is a good choice.
Also Cheddar Box in Middletown is good

I'll second The Cafe (I think the actually address might be Brent Street and not Broadway).

Can I suggest The Smokehouse BBQ in Fern Creek? We're on Bardstown Rd, and offer a lot of great food options. :D
