Kudos to The Bristol on Bardstown Road

by Rebecca Clark » Sun Aug 19, 2007 7:39 pm

Let me preface my tale by saying I went into The Bristol on my last ounce of energy ....

After a wedding on Sunday afternoon, I stopped into the Bristol on Bardstown Road around 2:15 p.m., not knowing that carry-out was unavailable until 3:00 p.m. Chef Francis had whetted my appetite at the State Fair for those delicious crab cakes and since I was in the vicinity, I decided to stop in. The hostess informed me that carry-out was not available at that time and then turned and asked a very kind gentleman (I am assuming the manager) to make sure. He looked at me and motioned me to him and said something about the magical 3:00 p.m. hour, then said, " ... but you look like a nice lady; have a seat and let me see what I can do." He disappeared, then returned and asked me what I wanted ... crab cakes or the sandwich. I told him it didn't matter, whatever was easiest; I just wanted crab cakes. In approximately 10-12 minutes, crab cakes appeared before me, along with the most delicious broccoli florets. The only problem was they weren't in a to-go container, but it didn't matter. Another kind gentleman brought me utensils and I enjoyed them right there at the bar. It was exactly what I wanted after a very tiring weekend. Both dishes were exquisite. The crab cakes were utter perfection and toasted to a delicious golden brown. The broccoli was perfect - crisp, but not too crunchy. What will keep me coming back on a more regular basis, however, was the "extra-mile" service extended to me upon my visit. The kind gentleman who made the decision to go ahead and serve me exactly what I wanted before it was available endeared himself to me. His kind gesture helped to transform a worn-out individual into a very contented foodie. After leaving the largest percentage tip of my life, I left knowing that my next visit to The Bristol will not be too far down the road. Hats off to the staff ... and my utmost thanks!
