Mike Linnig's reopens after winter break

by Robin Garr » Wed Jan 19, 2011 12:22 am

Business resumes Thursday, Jan. 20, a news release from Mike Linnig's reports. I doubt the picnic grove will be much fun in January, but of course Linnig's has a substantial amount of dining space heated under roof. :)

That is, honestly, about the only place my entire life that I could eat fried fish and be ok with it.

With all the other beloved oldie restaurants leaving us it's nice to know that ML is still around. Live long and prosper Mike Linnig's!

I've found that if you go early during the week or when there are off times without huge crowds on a wait, then the food is significantly better. I do feel that they nickel and dime you when you ask for extra sauces. Especially after considering what they charge for everything. It's not exactly cheap for what you are getting.
On the weekends when the weather is nice and there is an endless sea of humanity trying to eat there, I think that they probably "sandbag" a lot of the popular fried items to try to keep up with the endless maw. Unfortunately, most of it suffers from sitting around under a heat lamp while waiting to be served.

I have to admit the main reason I love to go there is primarily for the nostalgia factor. I remember summer evening there with the family in the 60s, everyone crowded into one of the little cabins, the women folk in cotton dresses the men in white Ts drinking beers from long neck bottles.

I equate the scene Mike Linning's to a very casual South End version of Captains Quarters, except you have to walk to the top of the levee to see the river.
