Good news as far as I'm concerned. Whether she did the alleged deed or not, I think it's pretty safe to assume that she is neither a danger to society nor a likely repeat offender.

While I don't disagree, that does not distinguish her from millions of people in jail.

The only comment I will make is I think part of the requirement for her getting shock probation should've been her dropping all appeals.

The only good news is that none of the firefighters were injured or died responding to the fire she set.

I'm not sure what your point is, Matthew, but it is my personal opinion - and only an opinion - that only a fraction of the people we're keeping in jail, at great fiscal and social expense, really need to be there. It happens we know Susan and know something about this case, but I imagine that if I knew their stories, I'd say the same about a majority of people in the hoosegow.

I would say she wouldn't because she was convicted of the crime. The fact that he is out on probation would have nothing to do with that.

She can't collect until she wins the appeal. I am just very happy as well as all her family and friends that she is back home again.

I want to echo Mark's sentiments. He did an excellent job on WHAS at eleven.

Interesting article on Susan in the CJ today: http://www.courier-journal.com/article/20110220/NEWS01/302210035/1008/NEWS01/A-life-changed-by-prison-Woman-convicted-burning-down-cooking-store-adjusts-again-freedom?odyssey=tab|topnews|text|Local%20News

(Sorry to bring up that mention, Robin, but I did find the arty\icle interesting. If you remove this post I will understand.)

No worries, Gayle. I don't like to link to the CJ routinely because of the way they represent their Web traffic in advertising sales, ultimately taking money away from local businesses for a service that doesn't do them much good. But I'm not such a hard-head that I'll whinge about linking to a story of local interest ... I do it myself. :)
