RESTAURANTS IN PROSPECT

by Phil Gissen » Fri Jan 14, 2011 7:43 am

Is there any real good food in Prospect other then "Corbetts?" We have tried several places, but have been generally disappointed. Any ideas for us since that will be "home sweet home," and certain nights ya just want something close. Thanks.

Blackstone Grill has great food and a great atmosphere. Make sure you make reservations because they can get really busy at times.

Blackstone Grill, as noted. Hanabi Sushi. And Corbett's, of course. But without hammering on the suburban thing, if you want urban pleasures, you kind of need to drive into the urban area.

Robin, while there are definitely more options in the city, you needn't denigrate the burbs that much!

I agree with Blackstone & Hanabi Sushi.

In Prospect, also try J. Harrod's, plus Los Azteca's and the Bristol aren't bad for those type of places.

In Norton's Commons (closer than Corbett's) hit the Tea Station.

Just down the road are Captain's Quarters (more for summer patio dining), Eva Mae's (not my favorite, but many here seem to like it), and Cunningham's Creekside.

Holiday Manor (2 miles away) has Tokyo Sushi, Mojito's, Shiraz, Thai Cafe, Dooley's, and Impellizzeri's among others.

Heading towards the Oldham County part of Prospect is Burning Bush (I haven't been there, but heard some good things). Go out a tad farther and you're at Westport General Store.

If you accept Corbett's, then why not accept Umai Zushi Buffet (see other articles about it - maybe not "A" sushi, but definitely a strong "B"), Mitchell's, Martini's, Stoney River, and even 5 Guys?

Sure, when we go out we often hit the various restaurant rows (Frankfort and/or Bardstown Rd), but there are decent (if not 5 star) places around the corner!

I don't really think I denigrated the 'burbs that time, Andrew. I cited a few good examples that popped into my head but also pointed out the obvious, which is that if Phil (or you) want the urban ambience of a restaurant row, you've pretty much got to come to the urbs to get it.

At the risk of snark, I can't really recommend Cunningham's, either.

But CQ? That's a winnah ... summer, and winter, too!

OK, Cunninoham's is not known for being a bastion of "real good food," but sometimes we just want a fried fish sandwich & onion rings .. . .

I stand corrected on CQ - we do eat there year round, but 9 months of the year we tend more to go to spend an evening rather than just have dinner!

Finally, I did mention the Bristol!

China Tea Station in Norton Commons is great! Nice ambience, friendly service, fantastic food.

Andrew, this is not aimed at you. I understand and accept that everyone has his or her own tastes, and mine are no more important than anyone else's (except, of course, to me. 8) )

But as a local food critic, it's my considered judgement based on many samplings that Cunningham's - River and downtown - are no longer on par with much of the competition when it comes to fried-fish sandwiches and rings. I've been consistently disappointed in visits over the last couple of years. A few years ago, I would have agreed 100 percent with your analysis, but it seems to me that they've been cutting corners, and it shows. (I'd say the same of Mike Linnig's, by the way.)
