Liver & Onions

by Dave Troutman » Fri Dec 24, 2010 9:48 am

My wife and I were just talking about how long it has been since we have had some good Liver & Onions. We could not think of a restaurant that had it on the menu. Please help.

You might call ahead to make sure it's on the menu now, but I know my wife has had liver and onions there before and said it was good.

Actually Longhorn steakhouse has very good liver and onions. It's only on the lunch menu you can ask for it at dinner. It's grilled and all you can eat.

My folks ate at Goose Creek the other day and said it was great. My father had the chicken livers and was very pleased. I am ashamed to say i have never been there even though it is right down the road from Napa, I will have to go soon. Just out of curiosity, what type of liver do you all prefer? We use a calf's liver on our menu and I love it but I have only ever had calf there or elsewhere.

Put me down for calves' liver. I don't think I've ever had liver at a restaurant, though. My lovely wife cooks it for me (and she does a GREAT job of it), though she doesn't eat it herself. Back when I was single I tried cooking it myself, but it came out like shoe leather, so in my opinion there's definitely an "art" to it.

Calf's is best, but if you soak the beef liver in milk overnight you won't be able to tell much difference.

Dave, here is the url for the last discussion on liver and onions. http://forums.louisvillehotbytes.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=6368&p=63454&hilit=+liver#p63454

Personally, I go for lamb liver that I pick up at the Oldham Farmer's market and cook at home.

Seviche has veal's calf liver with caramelized onion, Point Reyes blue cheese, and demi glaze
II don't know if it's still on the menu ...but if you ask they will fix it for you
it's amazing ...
