Fried Chicken Livers

by MarieP » Tue Aug 14, 2007 11:08 pm

Just about my whole family loves fried chicken livers! Today I went to the Cracker Barrel on Crittenden with my grandparents, and my papaw ordered fried chicken livers. Now, we had not tried them there before, but these were terrible. They were cooked until they were hard as rocks. We asked about them (he didn't worry about getting something else- we'd already waited a long time), and the waitress said that the manager got complaints about them all the time. You'd think that would tell them something. Anyone else have this problem? I am wondering if this is unique to that one location (we hadn't been to that CB before) or if they are like that at all locations.

With that said, where do you all get good livers from? I like Goose Creek Diner's, and KFC's actually aren't half bad. Does Cottage Inn have them? I imagine their's would be good.

Flabby's in Germantown: hands-down has the best chicken livers I have ever eaten. The batter makes them almost seem light. I think they have an all you can eat lunch, maybe on Wednesdays.

I used to love KFC's for the flavor, and Lee's for value, but you can't beat Flabby's for fresh out of the fryer texture.

Flabbys - agreed

I agree with Flabbys - the best I have found in town. Never overcooked and the breading is just perfect.
I can never finish the basket they serve - for less than $5

Goose Creek Diner.......

has very good Chicken Livers.......when I get them, I have them cook them to "almost done" and then they are still perfectly moist......otherwise, they tend to be a bit on the "hockey puck" side. And the gravey that is served with them is very good as well.
If life's a Banquet, what's with all the Tofu?

Cheers!

I don't even *like* chicken livers, but I'll agree with all who said Flabby's.

Try the Chick Inn. My dad ordered them there when we went a few weeks ago. I hate chicken livers, but these looked good, and my dad said they were the best he'd ever had.

I second the Chick Inn for chicken livers. Best I've had in town. Piping hot!

Not to turn the thread (read: someone turning the thread), but that is the first positive thing I have read or heard about Chick Inn in about a year. Used to be my family's favorite for fried chicken, my favorite for fried fish sandwich. All I hear now is that the skillets are gone, the food is sub-par, the wait from the kitchen is still long and uneven, and the service is still famously slow. Anybody else have anything good to say, or should I start a new thread?

Might be good for a new thread, Tony. Short answer, which I'll repeat if you do a new thread, is that I've been contemplating doing a new review because almost everything you said about the food in general, the wait from the kitchen and the service is true. The chicken, however (in my experience) is still excellent.

The last 2 times I've been, the wait has been long, but they warned us upfront that it would take awhile for our chicken, which was fine with me. I found the food to be excellent. Both times as well, the service has been great.
