The Corner Door / Douglas Loop area

by Alan H » Mon Dec 20, 2010 10:01 pm

Went to Dundee Tavern this past Friday night to have dinner and some adult beverages and they were standing room only, not a table or barstool in sight.

We decided to go across the street to the Corner Door, been meaning to try it for sometime.
Very quaint and almost tranquil atmosphere, peace signs scattered throughout the bar / cocktail area, candles everywhere you looked, staff dressed in folksy clothing with beads, ( mind you I am a Dead Head, among other musical tastes ) and the feeling was really laid back. Felt like I was in the basement of an old friends house ( back in the day ), or maybe it was my house ? :D 8)

There was a four piece band doing covers of The Allman Bros, C.S.N., Dylan, amongst other musicians of the same musical genres.

We sat at the bar and ordered drinks, did not see anything local on tap ( maybe David, Paula or Jeremy can correct me on that ) it looked like all the usual craft beers you see ( Stone, Bells, Sierra Nevada, Falls City, etc.. ), the bar had about 8 barstools and we were the only people sitting at the bar, maybe around 5 hightops were listening to the band.

The menu had about five appetizers to choose from queso, bourbon sausage, chicken tenders to name a few ranging from $3 to $5 dollars. We both ordered the "Zip" burger, around 6 ozs. of hamburger dressed ( kinda reminded me of Ollies Trolley in the size ) tasted good and only $3.75 no side included, we also ordered ribbon fries which were deep fried thinly sliced potatoes twisted to form a ribbon as a side item to share, added garlic salt for taste. There were some salads and other sandwiches on the menu in the $4 to $6 dollar range.
There are two other rooms towards the back of the building that were empty, maybe around 15 tables, don't know if they get a later crowd ?

Yes, never went in there, but the locals said they cleaned things up a whole lot.

A fine beer may be judged with only one sip, but it's better to be thoroughly sure.

I went to the Corner Door a few months back and was impressed with the place. The owners were really nice and crowd seem to be having a nice time. The Zip burger is what I had too

Sounds like my kind of place, where we can wind down after the work week.

We went a few weeks ago on a Saturday night (Saturday after Thanksgiving). The crowd was of medium size, mostly clustered around the bar and in the front. The band playing that night was comprised of what I think were high schoolers, and included a smattering of parents and other high schoolers. They were okay, but crazy loud, and it was an odd crowd, so we went to back room. The front has a bar-ish feel to it while the back has a more restaurant feel.

The food was good, the drinks fine, and the prices on the low side. It's a short walk for us, so I'm sure we'll be back, and it's a nice option along with Dundee and Lou Lou for that area.
