The Troops Are Coming! Can You Help?

by Michele Brinke » Sun Dec 19, 2010 5:36 pm

On Christmas Eve, 85 Army Trainees are visiting our neighborhood. They can't go home for Christmas for various reasons, so Michele's On Goss and the Goss Ave Antique Mall have teamed up to entertain these soldiers. They will be bused in from Fort Knox where they will be treated to a lunch donated by Danny Mac's Pizza. After that they will get back on the bus for a tour of Churchill Downs and the Derby Museum. They will then return to Michele's and the Mall for more Christmas Surprises, games and a huge Christmas Feast!
Would you like to help? We need everyone in the neighborhood and surrounding areas to come together for 15 minutes. You can cheer and wave your flags as the soldiers pull in. Bring the kids and family down and show them what Christmas spirit is all about. Help make these 85 Army Trainees feel like they are welcome and appreciated. We are gathering in the back parking lot at the Goss Ave Antique Mall, 946 Goss Ave in Germantown around 9:15 am. The back parking lot is off of McHenry Street. There will be a limited amount of free flags and hot chocolate available. Feel free to bring your own flag or sign to wave. The buses will be coming down Goss from Eastern Pkwy at 9:45 am. Be there! Our plan is to have people lined up all the way down Goss Ave.! Pass this event around so we have a big turnout. Be here for them, make their day for 15 minutes and go off and do your own thing and
HAVE A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Thanks for the support! I'd love to meet you or anyone who stops by. I'll be the one handing out the flags! I hope it's snowing, it will be a beautiful sight! A Christmas to remember...

There was a nice turn out for these soldiers this morning and LHB had a few reps there as well. Maybe Michelle can post more later about how it all went down and if she got any feed back from the soldiers themselves. As for myself well, those kids just look so young. I hope to goodness our leaders make wise decisions so the lives of these young men and women aren't squandered. How we ever thank them for all they do for us?

Carla, that's what I said to DH when I got home. Those soldiers looked so young! But it seems that a lot of people are looking young to me these days . . . Anyway, it was a good turnout on a cold morning. I do hope the soldiers are enjoying a day off from their usual routine.
